if you've been practicing figure 8's and the offset weave, you'll do fine. the written section is harder, imho.

if you haven't been practicing, it will be difficult. :)

In my state, the test is a joke. The nice thing is you can practice as much as you want at home with a couple of plastic cups with water as cones and a 2 lane wide spot in a parking lot. Most places require that the bike be brought there legally, ie someone with a license has to be with you, bike has to be insured/registered. Also, if you take the beginner MSF course, in many states passing it gives you a motorcycle license. If you can't pass it on a GS, stay away from me....lol

I took the MSF training.  That allowed me to skip the driving part of the DMV.   I aced the written in the class, and aced the driving in the class.  I missed 1 on the test at the DMV...the question was worded horribly...I still think that if you thought of it how I was, then I would have got it right

Anyways, as long as you've been practicing, then you shouldn't have a problem.  If you don't pass, then you know that you weren't ready.  THAT'S A GOOD THING TO KNOW!  If you aren't ready, then you could get in an accident, and hurt yourself or someone else.  I'm sure you'll do fine though.  Good luck!

I used to go to the DMV after hours and practice on the course. No cones but all the markers were there.

A couple of years ago, I took a buddy to show him what to do. I was able to do the u-turn on my TLR and stay in the lines with at least 1 foot to spare. It was at full steering lock. Done with good balance and clutch control.

There are a couple of stupid questions. One was something about max handlebar to seat height, I guess no ape hangers.

It is not that hard. It is good to practice where you will take the test. Not all test surfaces are the same; patches, cracks, etc. Those irregularities can be a benefit though. Using them as turn markers helps. You should be fine.

If this is true I don't feel so bad anymore.  I have only been riding for 8 months without a license.  Although I'm planning on getting it in the next month or so.  I don't want to push my luck for 15 years.

I would get plenty of practice going into my shop doing a 180 u-turn in the grass and avoiding dog crap.

Just passed the MSF course about 2weeks ago.  It was plenty of fun (rained alot). Here in GA, you can skip the DMV test if you pass the MSF driving course.  Hardest part is the figure 8.  It's easier if you're not in 1st gear (too jerky), practice in 2nd.  Another trick is to counterbalance the bike by moving your butt to the outside of the seat while into the turn.

Good luck!

Orange County California? Was this the question about like a car turning left in front of you and in order to avoid it you're supposed to "move away from it" or some such nonsense? Cuz I got that wrong, and I feel like "slow down and swerve if necessary" or whatever is the more appropriate answer, despite somehow being "wrong". Im still ticked about that almost a year later.

You guy's bike test sounds a whole lot easier than the ordeal we have to go through, what does the motorcycle test over there involve doing exactly?
