I think that the paypal account deposit , * I hate paypal , ive been ripped off twice now and they dont care.* they charge money for accepting money , so every time ud do it , ud loose some money to them
the 6 month test is also good , but take acount into what they post about
seems to me , some little trouble maker , thats showing off , and admitting hes only got done for 500 for the 8000 balls hes used etc , and he seems pleased hes a month behind bills , with no job in prison , should be trusted with a 200 buck kit
what would be better is to take say 10 bucks into a paypal account for evertime they have it , so theres money going into the pot for new bits and and bobs , and to reimburse Kerry
Also i watched the whole video and the man did a awesome job of explaining how its done , and everything , thank you Kerry
I like your idea better than mine now. If the kit 'fund' gets a $10 or even $20 spot for each use, we could start up a 3rd kit quickly. So, the kit ships AFTER the funds are deposited, and the member gets a positive feedback on the forum to help keep track of things.
I still think there should be some donations to reimburse the original kit now.
I haven't been burned by paypal yet, but ya, I'm sure it will happen.
I have set up a paypal account for the GStwin website so people can donate cash for a new valve kit. I will give the paypal login information to whomever you guys think would be the best person for it and they can change the info to what they want. I don't really want to be the person responsible for this task since I have not been here for very long and most of you do not know me very well. The account is activated and you can send money to it right now. This will be much safer than shipping cash all over the country with the kit. Once we get the current kit back in circulation, the money in this account will go towards replacement of worn tools in the kits after we have a West coast kit put together. This is by no means my idea. I have been reading and contributing quite a bit to the valve kit discussion and have simply put several ideas together. The point is: If we don't do it, it'll never get done. Please vote on the amount you think donations should be in order to have the kit shipped to you. These donations will not be returned to you once you send the kit on to someone else. They will be used on/for the kit. The PayPal account e-mail is: gstwin@bellsouth.net and as I said earlier, you can donate money to this starting now.
No-one cares about this topic? This is something that will affect every one of us that does not own our own kit.
That's an awesome idea.. Though I'm on the east coast. I'm willing to donate some money to try the kit out ;)
so wut is this?
donation to which side kit?
This is for both kits. It looks like the West Coast kit has resurfaced. This is not only to help with keeping decent tools in the kit, it is also a sort of "insurance" that whomever wants the kit has to pay before it is shipped to them. Maybe it will help to keep the kits from being stranded from now on.
good man. the only issue i see is the email account in question. if that's a ISP account, it could be problematic if you change ISP's, or service is down/shoddy. (I'm only saying this because we had bellsouth for a while) and you'll also want to use a STRONG password to protect the paypal account (and the email account) from password attacks :)
It might be a good idea to have a thread to keep up with who has donated (gstwins nicks should be enough, for privacy) and who pledges to donate. Along with the balance.
Good initiative. Keeping the pledges for replacing Kerry's kit and the new to be formed replacement kit separate sounds like a good idea too. A modification of the original "Where is Kerrys EAST COAST/WEST COAST kit?" threads to include the suggestion to donate (not deposit!) $10 or $20 to the cause seems like a good idea.
There, my donation is in the pot :)
Kyle, my wife and I have used Bellsouth for over ten years and plan on continuing that indefinitely. However, the e-mail address in PayPal can be changed to any e-mail address, so it won't be a problem at all if it ever does need to be.
I would love for a moderator or someone who is a little more well known to you guys than me be in charge of the paypal stuff. If you guys are comfortable with me being over that account, that's fine, but I don't want you guys to hesitate to speak up if you think someone else may be better for the job. I would like to at least share the responsibility with someone else. Anyone want to make a nomination? Kyle, you want to offer your services? :icon_mrgreen: Kyle has already made a donation to the account, so right now the balance stands at $20.00. :thumb:
I guess this will become the thread that keeps track of the donations and balance of the account. You guys can also use this thread to suggest new parts/replacement parts for the kit.
I must be missing something... You can buy everything in the kit for about $15-20 ??? Why not just get your own :dunno_white: I know at my dealership shims are about $3 each.
I am missing the value in this kit ???

scottpa_gs - well the main thing is that it's convineint to just have it posted to you, use it, return it. Nothing is worse than starting a job such as this one and realizing you've misplaced you spring compressor (or whatever tool) since the last adjustment. Then you have to order another... etc
Shims are pretty expensive for me, iirc it was $10 each here at the stealership. Then there is the part about finding a stealership that will sell them, etc. And some folks live a little more remote, so running to town for xyz in the middle of a valve job = a pain.
the most important part to me was getting the original kit replaced, that i was trusted to use, and return :)
sure, anyone can put together their own kit. :)
I think to avoid theft of the new kit you should require a deposit of $30 once you get the kit the next person deposits $30 once that next person gets the kit the first person gets their $30 refunded :thumb: and so on....
truly, I see no value in this kit other than the shims, the kit itself can be made for $15-20
:thumb:
This is the exact reason I have been asking for input on this idea.
i voted for $10.00 everytime u use it :)
i hope another kit gets rebuilt soon :thumb:
PS: who is going to rebuild the kit?

even tho I dont need this kit I agree with the $30 depostie
I am game! whatever be the consensus on the amount I will pay to the account. 8)
Hi all,
I agree with Scott-Pa. I have never figure out why all of you keep this thing zipping around in the mail. :) I have always had my own stuff for valve adjustments. It's part of the deal about owning a specific bike.
The Motion-Pro valve shim tool can be found for under $25, the feeler gauges are cheap, a cheap micrometer you can get at Harbor Freight (good enough to measure valve shim thickness), and a few spare shims are only occasionally needed anyway.
I do realize that some dealerships charge too much for shims and that others are located too far from home for some folks, but what can you do.
I always keep a record of the shims in my engine so I know what I might need next time (one size up perhaps?) and can get one or two ahead of time.
Because this kit keeps disappearing and is getting hard to administer (now you're talking about creating a $30 deposit and an e-mail account for donations!), maybe everyone should just start their own personal kits and not expend so much energy on a project that started out with a cool and friendly idea that has not simply gotten too big to easily continue.
That's not a failure. It was a success and now maybe it's time for folks to get their own kits together for the sanity of the group.:)
Best wishes,
Todd
trwhouse does have a point.
personally though, i have used the kit and it was very nice to have everything you need and then send it off to someone else.
However, if we decide not to keep the kit circulating why not have some kind of "shim exchange", where we can all get the shims we want?
hmm Jeremy may be right instead of sending everything we should just exchange shims :dunno_white: :thumb:

yes, except you'll still need the valve spring compressor, and a mic/caliper, etc
all in one kit (including shims) means you don't need to run all over town... and you donating your unused shims BACK to the kit means it gets a wide variety of shims. :)
It was nice when I did my valves it cost me $4.70 postage.
