I have had my bike for about 2 months now. I have noticed this twice recently.
I will be crusiing along and I will notice the tach drop to zero and jump up, it will do this alot at lower RPMS (<4000) but tonight it also happened at higher RPMS <7000 occansionally it would stay off comlpetely for a few minutes. Also the headlight would be extremly dim, as would be the dashlights.
Not sure what the problem is. I just had it worked on mechanically and I had a full tank of gas (not sure if that would matter) my battery is just over 2 months old.
I can only think it might be the alternater is going bad becuase I am not puting any unessacary load on it and I am not going below 4000 RPM frequently.
Also it runs perfect all the time.
And when Idleing the electrical problems seems to go away completely.
I am completly lost with this.
Any idea?
There is no alternator :thumb:
Check your ground connections and battery connections :thumb: What year is your GS? only newer models have an elctric tach
What year?
89-02 have mechanical tachs - lube the cable and make sure it is tight.
04+ have electrical tachs - look for loose, bad or corroded connections.

How do you check the ground connection?

maybe that my problem, I think there are parts there really aren't. I have an '04.
Thanks
Fallow the ground wire from the battery to where it ends.
If you live in a humid area or high rain fall area, you may have moister an corrosion in the wiring plugs.
