Yep, I've searched, but I suck. Everything talks about a 14 front, or a wild n hairy 18 tooth.
So, my machinist brain says the change in circumference from a 16 to 15 tooth front will only pull the axel forward a litttttle bit. Am I right, and a 110 tooth chain will be fine ?
front = 15
rear = 39
now then, if my tires just come in tomorrow... ;)
fixed, it's a 15 tooth i'm wondering about :)

I'm a bit confused :dunno_white: Did you mean to say you are going from a stock 16 tooth to a new 15 tooth?
Either way, fewer teeth means a smaller diameter sprocket. I think this would provide chain slack and result in the axle moving back, not forwards. I'm sure there are threads stating that the stock chain will work with this combination, but I can't find any at the moment.
fixed it, i'm installing a 15 tooth, stock rear, hopefully 110 link 520 chain
I ran 15/39T on my 97 GS with standard 110 link chain. Moves axle back about 5/32" from standard 16/39T position. Center distances I've calculated lately:
16/39T and 110 link center distance is 25.679"
15/39T and 110 link centre distance is 25.827"
14/39T and 110 link center distance is 25.975"
14/42T and 110 link center distance is 25.473"
14/39T and 108 link center distance 25.347"
13/39T and 108 link center distance 25.494"

cool thanks gsjack. now, i'll save this chart as a pdf for future reference, hopefully another 24,000 miles in the future :)
Dude... That GSJack is a f'ing MACHINE!!! Seems like every post I see by him clears up something I had at one time wondered about!
Nice info, Jack! Thanks! That might save me some work in the near future. :cheers:
