Title: blown motor advice
Post by: nastynate6695 on May 17, 2008, 02:40:48 PM
Okk.... so the motor is blown.. .tried to turn it by hand with the spark plugs out of it and no go.

A buddy and i did spot some scoring on the heads so im hoping its just the top end.

Now its time for your advice what should i do...

New motor  ( if i can find one close) ?

IF its just the top jugs .. then replace what is needed and try to run it?  ( if i remember someone replaced them with sv heads   please confirm)

Say screw it and go with yamahas credit deal  and get a new bike?

OR take bike out back strip down and part out...all the while cursing the motorcyle gods and every little asian guy that designed the bike.

Wouldn't have been SV heads, you would need two cylinders parallel to eachother.  I think the ides of using an older GSX-R topend and cutting off the two end cylinders has been thrown around but I don't know if it's been done.

87-89 GSXR 600/750 oil cooled head.Cylinders are standard GS bored to 541cc or 78mm.
Been done several times, but getting the tight lipped people to give up the specifics is hard to do.

hmmm ill have to look into it some more... maybe i can pry some info from the motorcycle gods...

On an upswing i found a 92 gs  with a wrecked front end.  If the motor runs ill try to get  then part out whats left..frame doesnt have  tiltle... so there goes that.  but besides the forks the rest of it looks ok.

i believe bob broussard did this? with teh gix heads. but IIRC  boo-koo $$$, prolly cheaper to find a used gs engine than, rebuilding.
