Bigger older brother. The GS550ES bikes are 4cylinder.I know it doesn't look like it in the pics.
would this be an ok bike to start out on? :dunno_white:
I would think it would be a little to much for someone just starting out.
bummer.
agreed, unless you start SLOWLY and get used to teh bike. and maybe have someone you know who rides, to pass you by on teh street, ( on it to show you what it can do when called upon)
i suppose i'll continue to troll craigslist until i find something that sparks my intrest that's got a price tag i like. i'm going to try to dedicate about 2k of my tax money to the purchase of a bike. i'd like something i don't need to wrench on to ride it. just don't have the tools or space for wrenching at the moment. :icon_mrgreen:
the 550 shouldnt be too bad as a starter :dunno_white:
my wife said it was ugly. i'm like, uh, hello...i thought we agreed i'd just buy a cheap bike to ride and then at a later date when there's a bit more cash in the bank and i've got more experience then i'll go buy a nice shiny new.........whatever..........
tell her, if you want pretty, then double the budget. ( rats chance in hell there mate)
double? eh, i doubt double would even do pretty. when we left the harley dealership today she commented how sexy i looked on the 1200L. and it's got a tag on it of just over 10k. besides, i told her that i thought i should be the one to worry bout the looks seeing as for the moment, i'll be the one riding it.  i've got a sneaking suspcion though that she really wants me to buy a bike SHE likes so that when i'm ready to upgrade, she can have the old bike. :dunno_white:
now that i am working i was thinking of getting a new red r1
I say shoot for something like this.

Well, it's an auction with 6 days left. So it will go for a bit more.

It's only 8.5 hours away...
Roadtrip!!! :icon_mrgreen:
you're forgetting....i got a wife and 3 kids. someone either has to watch the brats or they have to go with us so i can ride the bike back and wife can bring the car back so the shorter the trip the better. now, i might could talk the father-in-law to going with me and taking his truck but chances are it would cost more in gas than the bike purchase. so, short trips are good. we got lucky with our charlotte trip coming up, my wife's aunt has volunteered to stay with the girls. the idea is this trip is supposed to kinda be like our honeymoon cuz we never really got one. :icon_mrgreen:

http://www.cycletrader.com/find/listing/2001-SUZUKI-GS500-92464259
I actually offered $2100 on this one--sort of a low ball, but not far from list. I had found another for $1500 and couldn't justify offering anymore even if hers was nicer. Anyway, I'm guessing she'd take 2400ish. It is very low miles, and some of the usual tricks have already been done to it. She said someone else had actually offered her $2600, but he was an ass, so she wouldn't sell it to him. SO, be nice if you call!
That's a nice looking gs.
The only problem with it is that she doesn't HAVE to sell it. She just doesn't use it that much.
That always makes it tough for the buyer to get a good deal. Unless you have the money to spare, move on.
Here you go jserio, not street legal yet... But slap a flashlight on there and yer gud to go.

 thanks buck....but on the last one you posted, well, i'd like to stay alive for longer than my first ride down the road.
Yeah I know, not a good first bike. :)
A 96 srad 750 ??????????? not a good first bike. Yet you have been looking for an F4i?
Gonna have to find specs to back it up but I believe the f4i has as much maybe slightly more HP and Tourque as well as being lighter for a better power to weight ratio.
I would bet the 750 has a little more oomph than an F4i, not much but a little. Overall, I would think they would be very close in power to weight ratio. My SRAD 600 was a fun bike and had plenty of power to play with but it was far from a modern sport bike.
okay, as a new rider, now i'm confused. i was judging the 750 to be too much because well, 750cc. i'm sure i'm just being a moron. :dunno_white: i'd really like to have a bike with FI. but a manageable bike that won't kill me for newbie mistakes. i'm trying to widen my search of possible bikes past the normal 250 ninjas, honda rebels, etc.
Suzuki claims 134 hp for the 96-99 750's, they neglect to mention whether the power is at crank or wheel so I would assume wheel as most manufacturers are more than happy to point out an impressive number being put down on the wheel. I would say the model probably puts down around 110-115 The GSX-R has a claimed dry weight of 394lbs.
I didn't find a Honda spec for the F4i, but I did find several independent dyno's ranging from a bone stock 94 to remapped/full system around 110, on the wheel. The F4i spanks the SRAD with a dry weight of only 370lbs.
so, yeah, they're gonna be pretty close in general.
