Title: question about selling bike
Post by: rnicholas on May 17, 2008, 09:25:33 PM
So, i believe it is time to sell and upgrade.

I have a 1989 with a carb problem.  I think a smart person could easily adjust, try, adjust a little more and ride very easily.  The engine seems find, needs a valve adjust I'm sure.

Is it better to sell whole, or part out?  Whatever I can get becomes the down payment for my upgrade.

Any advice is welcome!!!

thanks

depends on 1 what you would like to get out of it, and 2, if by repairing, you can get the price youre after, and 3. if by doing repairs, wont cost you more than qwhat you can sell it for. also, whether the prospective buyer, is willing to do the repairs him/herself, or if by not having them done at time of sale, would that kill the sale.

I would bet that you'd get more money parting it out. That being said, you should consider the hassle and time-investment required on your behalf if you go that route.

If you need the money soon (as in for the down payment you mentioned), you may prefer to sell the whole thing as-is.

If it starts and runs, even if it runs so-so, tell the propective buyer that it will cost $200 to fix the problem and sell it. If it doesn't run enough for a test ride, fix it if you want a fair price. Even the stupid buyers realize that if the seller says it is an easy fix, the seller would have done it if that were true.

thanks.  I don't want to fool anyone.  There is a definite mixture problem that may or may not involve purchasing parts.  I honestly don't know and....I'm done fooling with it.  I think I'll post it and see if anyone wants it.  If not, part away.

Send your carb to Buddah and he'll get you straight for $45 dollars.
