Title: KNOCK KNOCK...Engine Knocking
Post by: Jerka on May 22, 2008, 06:14:48 AM
Hey...I thought I heard a little knock this morning while I was sitting at a stop light.  I've never heard knock before, but I've heard it sounds like a marble rattling in a coke can...and thats what I heard this morning.  I'm just wondering what causes it and how to fix it.  I have been using regular gas...should I up the octane and start buying premium?  Any ideas???  Thanks.

Knocking due to low octane is only noticable under load and acceleration.

Cams have been known to knock, especially on the 04+ due to lack of proper spacers.

Tank to frame vibrations are possible as well. Common on those without the trim strip on the bottom edge of the tank.

Low frequency or high frequency knock?

If it sounds like this one from yesterday it could be the harmless camshaft end play knock which started long before the 04 models:

Thanks Jack :thumb:...that sounds like my knock.  I'll keep an eye...or an ear...on it for awhile and let you know if I can pinpoint it.
