I'm the lucky owner of a 99' gs500.
My problem is that i fint the tail lights very booring.
Have any of you tryed to modify them?

Some have used R1 tail lights, not sure of the year but they are the older ones. 90's maybe.
One guy recessed his and flipped it so it sits flush with the plastics, I always thought that looked good.

Prior to getting an integrated tailight, I recessed mine (on and 04) to make it more flush with the rear plastics. I did this by cutting off the tabs moving them back, drilling holses, and re-bolting to the sub-frame.
Don't do this if you might be getting a clear lense alternatives integrated one in the future as the lense they give is already smaller, which achieves the 'flush' look. I ended up having to make spacers from PVC pipe after installing to push the lense back out to a 'flush' spot.
