So after getting the bike out of hiding this spring, she wasn't running so smoothly. Lean mixture from pressumably dirty carbs.
Posted my symptoms and asked for advice. Replaced the stock air "filter" with a K&N drop-in, but didn't see much improvement. I finally convinced myself that I could handle cleaning the carbs. Wasn't very hard and I enjoyed seeing how things really work.
:mad:Of course I stripped every screw holding the float bowls on!!!
But took a vice to em and now I've replaced them with allen bolts so i can get the float bowls off while still on the bike.
While I was cleaning I must've gotten Seafoam on the rubber o-rings of the valve seats, cause once I put the shiny clean carbs back on the bike it overflowed with fuel. Messed with the float height for about 4 hours until I finally decided to check the o-rings. I've replaced them and she's never run better!
Just wanted to thank the site and everyone who chimed in. Glad to be part of this wonderful GS community.
Dude, if you 'get' carbs with only 7 posts, and your bike is working well now, you have to stay on and contribute. What will poor idiots like me do without your help ? ;)
Congrats, it's a blast when they just run :D
It's good to hear success stories :thumb:
