I tried searching but I can't find any good websites or businesses that sell used motors? I tried craigslist but I don't find any motors listed. If you guys know of some I'd appreciate it if you guys reply. Thanks!! :thumb:
don't forget the tow trucks. bikes end up there all the time, from neglect, wrecks, etc.

I picked up this one for $250!! and my mechanic took a look at it...he said all it needs is that motor because it has a bad crank...
...sorry but it's a pix taken with a friends phone...lol

Depends on where it broke and what it damaged at lock up.Some times a broke crank destroys the case journals.Rebuilding an engine in that condition can get costly even if you DIY it.I would check every little millimeter of every part.What's your locale someone maybe able to help you and keep an eye out for another engine for you.I would buy a rebuildable engine if it's close and dirt cheap.
From my experience when cranks go bad, the rod bearings fail first. The crank I replaced in my 97 was that way. Nothing really left of the rod bearings and the rods were blued half way up. But the main crank bearings wear still good. I believe it was ran dry of oil.
I rebuilt the 97 motor for less than $75. That included the crank rods, new bearings and my labor. No special tools are needed. The crank and rods are from a GS450. It looked almost brand new, better than any used GS500 crank I have seen. I did hone the cylinders and lap the valves in the rebuild.

Cool!I could never get away that cheap.Everything I try to repair along these lines requires machining and that's expensive.

I'm going to keep looking...the only one I seen is a 2004 and I read up that it bolts in but needs to be modified to work with the older models. Thanks...

Well its either a 2001 , or a 2002 , as they didnt do the 2003 in the us? and that is cheap for a new model , being it looks sooo much better than the pre 01's
I bought my 2001 project for 400 pounds , and the book price was around 1600
So no websites/businesses that anyone recommends for me to take a look at for used motors??? :cry:

I have never heard of a site like that. Ebay or a local m/c salvage yard may be your best bet, most have resources to locate bike parts from others. Expect to pay $300-600 for a used motor. And with the motor weighing 140#, shipping will add a good bit.
