...And is there anyway to compensate for it? I need new tires and figured I'd go a little bigger. But I would like to keep my miles/speed accurate. Am I better off just going with the stock sizes? Are the advantages of a bigger tire worth it?
The speedometer is more accurate with the 110/80 front tire than it is with the 110/70. Speedo is driven from front wheel so rear tire size doesn't affect it.
Thanks for the info.
I've been reading the tire wiki. I was looking at Avon AV45/46's.
Being the tire guru that you are, what would you recommend for $200 or less for a nice pair? I'm looking for something somewhat sporty, but not going have wear real fast.
Depends on what type of riding you are planning on doing. I just ordered a set of Avon AM26 RoadRiders from American Motorcycle Tire a couple days ago(americanmototire.com). I got the 110/80-17 front and 140/70-17 rear for $156.18 shipped. Pretty bad-ass deal, if you ask me. Many people here, including Gsjack, will recommend American Motorcycle Tire. Greeeaaatt prices!
Here is the link to the AV45/46's that you want...

Looks like you could get a pair shipped for pretty darn close to that $200. :thumb:
Well, I decided to go with the Roadriders as well (110/80 and 140/70). Can't beat the price for the quality, from what I've been reading. I had my local shop price them out and they wanted $99 for the front and $119 for the rear! Yeah right. So I ordered them from AMT for $189 shipped 2-3 day express. $50 for 2-3 day shipping, but hopefully I'll have them by the weekend. I'm excited.
Excellent...glad to be of help.
I wish now that I had opted for the faster shipping. I could have put them on over this past long holiday weekend! Don't know what the heck I was thinking! :cookoo:
Oh well. I'll have them on by the end of this coming weekend!
It's always nice to return to a thread and find everything has been resolved. :thumb:
I'm running the Roadriders now too.
You are the one who helped me out a couple weeks ago when I had the same question, Jack. I'm just 'passing it on'. 8)
