Title: Any of you ever thought about something like this??? Has it been done?

What are your thoughts?  I'm thinking of taking the GS and chopping off the rear and replacing it with a harley style rear-end.  I know the pic is crappy, but all I have to work with here at home is paint.  I will photoshop it tomorrow at work and make it look good and blend much better.  Just as a rough idea/sketch, what do you think?  Is it: Possible?  Ugly?  Stupid?  I know the lower controls would have to be moved forward.  Is that even possible on this bike?   :icon_mrgreen:

Go smoke another one and call me back.

You're in that middle ground between "reality" and surfing the clouds at the moment.

you've got it all wrong...

you're going to have to loosen 90% of all the bolts/nuts in order to get the authentic HD feel, and disconnect one plug wire. :)

i really like that. it vaguely reminds me of harley's new semi-sporty bike that they introduced in europe recently, the XR1200. Or at least, in theory. If it were me, id go totally bobber style with the rear if youre gonna have a solo seat. like get one of those $10 boat trailer fenders from a scrap yard and have just enough behind the seat to mount some lights. The real technical issues with a mod like that would be chopping off the subframe without having to put new shocks on and figuring out where to put all the stuff that normally goes under the seat, liked the rectifier. you might have to move the battery too, depending on how low you want your seat.

I agree with the short little fender, I don't really like the look of that one in the picture. But that's just my opinion.

Any better?

much betterererer - and you parked away from that super scary volvo wagon of destruction ;)

the problem with making a gs-chopper is the swing arm, or more importantly the travel of the swingarm. just sit on it and it sags, hit a bump and it compresses. it'd suck if you turned your fender into a friction brake over RR tracks ;)

nice to see someone is getting enough rain for clover to bloom- we're try as tender. :(

I think I would only need to chop a small portion of the subframe for this to work.  My seat will more than likely be as high as it is currently.  The way I could do the rear fender is to compress the rear shock completely, measure the travel of the swing arm, and mount the rear fender an inch above that.  I dunno.  This, if it even makes it past this stage, will be a winter project for me.  As for the length of the rear fender, what I have shown you is only an idea as to where I may go with this.  I would more than likely have a seat large enough for two.  I don't ride two up often, but I would like to be able to if I wanted.  Wonder how the exhaust would sound with just a straight pipe.  I know I would need to rejet if I went that route.  I just don't think it would be very appealing to see a cruiser style bike and it sound like it currently does!  I could get rid of the air box completely and maybe come out on each side with a breather for each carb.  That would free enough room under the seat to slide the battery forward and down enough to drop the seat a little lower.  The problem with going lower on the seat would be the tank though.  I don't wanna get into trying to find a tank that looks right or will fit with my setup.  I would rather leave the tank stock and work around that.  Thanks for all of the comments guys!

Ben, I could just buy a cruiser, but I LOVE trying different things.  I would get so much more satisfaction from this project than just buying one.   I think you know what I mean.   :thumb:

when i took my hagon shock out of the 1996 and put it in the 2001 the moment when there was no shock in the gs , it looked really nice low , i think it could look really good , when Eightball came out, i think its cost nearly 100,000 bucks , on a GS , but The Great Jim wanted to do it , and its insane , 300 rear tire , crazy lol

i say do it dude , all gs's come out different, take mine for example, its going to be a improved stock looker , i had all these crazy ideas , and then in the end i went back to the single headlight , stock gauges , etc , but then with a katana f/e with progressive springs and HH pads, Hagon rear racing shock , 4.5 inch wheel , lunch box , stainless exhaust , nice little touches, and i think its well nice , and i think if u think it looks good , then thats all that matters  :thumb:
