Switching over the blown motor with the one i bought last weekend. Both are off the bike and sitting on the table. Im going to change the oil and get new spark plugs.. But does anybody recomend doing anything else to the donor motor before i slip it into my frame..????? If so please let me know.
I checked the valves and the cam chain tensioner before I installed my new engine last year. It's a little easier to do on the bench than on the bike.
Check and replace any leaking gaskets and seals.

i would if i could but i dont know what (if any) leak and its hard to tell because the engine is dusty..IT started up and ran fine when i bought it and i didnt see any major oil leaks so im hoping im fine... if not ill find it after i run it for a couple of miles then have to drop it out again.
Just out of curiousity.
How heavy is the engine without the components?
Is it possible to pick up and place into the frame without any assistance?
the engine is light enough that i can move it around myself with a little strain.. I weigh 160 and though not built i have core strength. Now moving the engine in and out of the frame is another story. Due to the tight area inside the frame you cannot do it by yourself in the manner you are thinking.. It just doesnt slide in and slide out like a duc.. or sv.. but you can install it yourself if you have a jack. I know this has been talked about before and ive heard of people using bed springs and other objects to drop and reinstall the engine. Last time i did it a buddy and i had to hastle wtih it for awhile lifting and shifting it into place....Ill will tell you how it goes when i try to do it myself today.
I was curious because I've been considering sandblasting and repainting my frame.
