Heya, so I finally got around to cleaning out my air filter with some old gasoline today. It's been air drying for a few hours. The filter still feels a bit moist and smells strongly of gas. Do I have to let it dry all the way? Will I blow my bike and self up if I drop it in and go for a little ride? Will it dry if I drop it in?
Please help. Is about to rain, and need to get bike back together.
You'll be fine as long as it's just gas.
ya if you see oil it would be bad...lol

no. no. and yes.
no big deal, think of all the air/fuel mixture that normally gets spilled if your needle jet sticks for a moment, or you flood it. the filter/bike doesn't care. worst case would be the really weird possibility of the filter catching fire from a backfire at start up... but that's like a 1 billion chance ;)
ride on !
Whew! Thanks guys. GS is working like a star with clean air filter and new oil filter
you can clean your air filter with old gas? ive never heard of that before, hows it work?

That's what this recent thread was talking about:

Be careful with the shop vac and gasoline fumes; in fact, skip any shop vac references. As surf.seppo did, just let the filter air dry.
Or, as surf.seppo did (mm ... third person reference), just drop the sucker into the bike moist, and pray it doesn't catch fire. The GS gods were with me. It worked pretty good. The gas got heaps of junk out of the filter.
