After stalling out on my project build http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=41087.msg461896#msg461896 (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=41087.msg461896#msg461896) for about 2 weeks I finally got around to re-assembling my forks with the needed new Oil and Dust Seals.
I am a fairly adept mechanic and all around fabricator wrenching on and building stuff for the last 25 of my 34 years yet Forks were always a taboo project something I always looked over or handed off to a supposed professional. After finding this site I can honestly say changing a set of Fork Seals was a piece of cake with all of the tips and advice posted here, you guys and gals are simple a wealth of knowledge and information with a kind and giving attitude.
A big thanks to Kerry for this thread http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=7084.0 (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=7084.0) that detailed the process of creating the tool needed to remove the Damper Rod? inside the fork tubes, this was a big help.
So now instead of dropping my 2001 KTM 300EXC forks off at the local bike shop for a needed Oil Seal replacement, I will tackle it myself once I'm done with this project build mind you, the dirt has taken a back seat to my interest in getting this GS back on the street in style.
In closing, thanks to all of you that share your knowledge, hopefully I'll be able to repay the favors one day.
ive actually done seal R&R while forks were assembled.
