ok, so there is a clicking, can't tell much from the video. :(

are you certain your headers are tight and not leaking ?

i'd start with a piece of hose to your ear to find out exactly which area the noise is coming from. valve adjustment may be all it needs, but it's really hard to hear anything in the video.

I hear the usual cam knock, valves needing adjusted, and possibly an exhaust leak between the head and header pipe.

Could be that the carbs are out of sync.Adjust the valves first before balancing the carbs.

Whoaaaaa!!!!If you're using auto oil change to an motorcycle specific oil.You have a wet clutch and auto oils have friction modifiers that casue wet clutches to slip.If you do need a clutch get a Barrnet or EBC clutch kit for a 99-02 SV650S.You need thr kit with friction plates and springs. This set up will be stronger and take more abuse which helps it last longer.

Got my kit from ebay.Remember to soak the friction disc in oil while you disassemble everything.

Took me a half hour. You will need a gasket for the right side cover($11 from dealer),you will need a torque wrench that reads in inch pounds not foot pounds for the 6 clutch bolts.Don't use any type of sealant on the gasket it'll end up clogging the oil passages in the side cover.

a little over 13k

Seems pretty unlikely that you'd need a new clutch at 13,000 miles.

I think you should try adjusting your clutch first. Use the adjustment screw on the left side of the bike (behind that small panel in the sprocket cover).

Title: hey, change your oil & filter dude!
Post by: ohgood on June 14, 2008, 03:11:19 AM
like the subject says, change your oil and filter.

use 10w40 (whichever brand is cheaper, car oil if you want) but make sure is DOES NOT say 'friction modifiers' or 'energy conserving'. those will make your clutch slip.

let me guess:

when the bike is cold (first 5-10 minutes of riding) it will slip in any gear, given aggressive throttle ?

when the bike is warm (at least 30 minutes riding) it will slip in higher gears (4-5-6) if you downshift and aggresively overtake another vehicle, but not generally in the lower gears ?

seems to get better as it warms up right ?

yes = change your oil and filter, adjust your clutch (the proper way, NOT just at the hand lever)

no = it may be time for a clutch, but i don't think so. 13k is way to low.

if i'm right please forward me a piece of tape written on it "Thanks man, you just saved me a ton of money on my car insurance !" attached to a 2007 triumph street triple, puke green in color, gas optional.

;)

My bike only has 8500 miles on it.The PO had some clutch work done. The replaced the basket, metal plates, and outer pressure plate.Didn't change the friction disc. When I pulled the bike out to start working on it,I thought the bike was in neatral and the chain was binding. It was actually in 1st gear and the clutch was slipping so bad I could push it.I only use MC specific oils and my clutch was adjusted properly. When I disassembled every thing,it looked brand new.I pulled the clutch and inspected everything.I found that the friction disc were worn more on one edge than the other an it was on both sides.Everything checked out so I replaced the friction discs with Mac Cycles kevlar disc and Barrnett springs.
