I have a 800 Intruder in the shop right now and one of the things on the agenda is to remove the melted boot rubber from his headers. Anyway know of a decent way to do this? Last resort will be to use methyl ethyl ketone but I'm looking to use something that won't damage the paint so much in the event of a mishap.
Ideas much appreciated!
I've heard that the Harley types swear by oven cleaner. I'd be inclined to try that, or paint remover.
Mask any nearby painted areas with aluminum foil.
I've seen many a boot melted on Harley pipes, oddly enough, I've never seen any of them have any interest in removing it. :icon_confused:
The one time I did see some initiative, the owner just replaced the pipes...
are the pipes black or chrome plated? ill await your answer before i continue
chromed.
ive used teh oven cleaner method, but many times its not possible to get it perfect. it can be done BUT damage to finish is quite possible. be careful
