It's time to head down to my neck of the woods :icon_mrgreen:
This coming Sunday (June 8th)
Get together at my house in Salinas. Then head over Laureles grade to Carmel Valley.
We could go down Carmel Valley Rd or head to Carmel and down to Big Sur :thumb:
Directions are simple.
101 south to Salinas. Go past Northridge mall on left and new automall on right.
Take Laurel Dr exit,( turn right at stop sign.)
Left on Davis Rd. (1st light after exit)
Left on Larkin St. (2nd light after turn on Davis)
Left on Kearny (4th st on left)
Left on Alvarado Dr. (761 Alvarado Dr. Salinas CA. 93907)
Black box trailer in driveway on right (corner house)
Meet around 10:00ish :icon_mrgreen:
My cell # is 831-596-3111 if there is a problem.
If that date doesn't work, we could do it on another Sunday :dunno_white:
The 15th is fathersday, so I'm sure that will be an issue for some.
This for ALL riders. ANY SKILL LEVEL!!!
GREAT ROADS, WITH MUCH LESS HAZARDS THAN SKYLINE AREA.(ie bicycles and cops :flipoff:)
Could I put in a vote for Sunday, 22 June?
I'd love to do a ride back home, and with Bob no less! :thumb:
I have no problem with the 22nd :thumb:
Sweet! The 22nd would work better for me too! :thumb:
OK :thumb:
PANDY :dunno_white:
SANJAY :dunno_white:
Anybody else?? :icon_mrgreen:
Sorry...been busy riding..haven't checked in here for a few days... :flipoff:
My bike is gonna be prep'd for the track on Sunday the 22nd
If it turns out that it won't be prep'd 'til the 23rd, then I'd be in. :( I'll find out as soon as I can! :icon_mrgreen:
Went down to Big Sur today. Weather was fair. It's always cool along the coast and nice in Big Sur since it's inland enough. Gets windy heading back north though.
I think we'll do the Carmel Valley route on our ride on the 22nd :thumb:
We need more people to show up.
I know you're out there.
Don't be intimidated ;)
This is a fun ride for ANY level rider
I'm there for the 22nd! Woot! :thumb:
Now, will you be serving breakfast or will we be riding first and eating later? :icon_mrgreen:
We can ride into The Village in Carmel valley and get breakfast at the Running Iron  :thumb:
Never been, but it sounds good! :)
Gonna prep my bike for the track on the 23rd, so I am *IN*! :icon_mrgreen:
WOO-HOO  :thumb: :icon_mrgreen:
Man I wish I lived out there, all this organization and great group riding makes me jealous. :)
I think I've got an autocross that day (in Marina, no less). Gotta check.
I'll likely make a small detour to Salinas on my way to the ride, cuz one of the members of another moto forum has offered to trim my front fender down so that it'll pass spec at the track. Damn...Salinas and Monterey... I love living in Cali! :icon_mrgreen:
Woo hoo, indeed! :icon_mrgreen: :thumb:
Pandy, are you riding down in the morning? I haven''t decided whether to ride down in the morning or go the night before. My sister lives in Salinas but the thought of being crammed in her studio the night before a ride - or ever! - does not appeal.
But neither does the thought of leaving from here at 8am-ish. I am not a morning person. :icon_twisted:
I'm going to ride down that morning. I also will be making a pit stop in Salinas so that my front fender can be fixed. :icon_mrgreen:
I'm probably going to be leaving at around.....7-7:30ish or so? :o
Holy that's-too-early-for-me, Batman!! :o
Okay, then I'll meet you at Bob's at 10am! Have fun getting your fender fixed! :thumb:

Uh, my house IS in Salinas
We meet at my house and leave from there. We don't actually go to Monterey.
Do a google map search; 761 Alvarado Dr. Salinas CA. 93907
Real easy to find. Off hiway 101 :thumb:

It's the Vicodin! That's my story, and I'm sticking to it! :flipoff:
Oh no! :o
I just found out about the accident, Pandy! (I don't read the Odds & Ends section much. )
Lots of good recovery vibes to you! :kiss3: And let's keep in touch about the 22nd; I might just drag my ass up that early to ride in the company of a  "big, mean, rough, tough biker chick."
 Actually, I'm more the short, stubby biker-chick type LOL ...hopefully we can group ride to the group ride  :kiss3:
Sounds good! :thumb:
Whereabouts in Salinas are you going for the fender repair? It's my hometown, of sorts (junior high and high school). :)
I'll have to find out the address so that I can Mapquest it; I'll let you know as soon as I know. A guide would be even better than Mapquest. ;)
I get lost more often than I pandy my bike.... :icon_lol:
Bob, what time do you think we'll wrap up? Maybe I should see if I can get the fender work done after our ride... My boy's ridable...he's just a little ugly at the moment....
We"ll probably finish up around 2:00 or so. Depending on how many breaks we take :icon_mrgreen:
I can do any repairs you need at my house. I have almost every tool or piece of equipment you could ever need :) :thumb:

Well...he has a pretty bent-up foot brake pedal... can that be unbent, or should I just bite the bullet and order a new one? :icon_rolleyes:

We'll try bending it back a little first. Not sure if it's aluminum or not. If it's steel we can straighten for sure. :thumb:
I'd just take the fender off. It's not necessary for a track day anyhoo. :flipoff:
I've never run one on my racebike
Maybe you can snag a good one off ebay later :dunno_white:
Are we doing a wrenching session before/after the ride? Does this mean I should bring my progressives to install? :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:
Pandy, let me know if you have an adjusted departure time in light of this new maintenance schedule? ;) I'd love to ride down with you! :thumb: :thumb:
Bring the springs :thumb:

Medical complications... I'm playing things day-by-day at the moment. I've had to postpone my track day. :bs:
Hopefully I'll still be able to make it if the infection hasn't turned me into (more of) a raving lunatic (than normal). :bs:
:2guns: :2guns: :2guns: Cagers. :2guns: :2guns: :2guns:
Oh, bummer - on all fronts: medical and track day postponing!
Keep us updated and just know that you'll have a riding buddy down to Salinas if you feel up to it. :thumb: :thumb:
I'm gonna try..if I am able to make it, it's gonna be a niiiiiice...slloooooow....mosy-ing ride...the boyz can go play...I'll rest often.

I'm still in. I'll be sure to catch up to Pandy and Pronator on the 101/Lawrence onramp, or after the Lawrence onramp onto 101 (kinda like the Veteran's Welcome Home ride, Pandy?).
Ok I'm in. Bike runs great now, and I'm free until 6pm.
So meet at Bob's at 10am? Wrenching pre- or post-10am?
Hey Scratch, I'll assume Pandy knows where to meet up with you near Lawrence. I'll be the yellow GS trailing behind her. ;)
Pandy, do you want to meet up with me at the Shell Gas Station right off of Embarcadero West on 101?
Sanjay, are you going to join the caravan or will we meet up with you at Bob's?
Bob, I don't need to get my progressives in before the ride (or even after if there's no time, but I'll bring 'em just in case). :thumb:
Must. Stop. Playing. With. Text. Colors!!
Can I have your stock springs and spacers?
Hey Scratch,
When I get the progressives in, let me ride on them for a couple weeks to make sure they're right for me. Once I know I'm not going back to stock, they're all yours! :thumb:
P.s. Is it cool if I invite a friend? He doesn't ride a GS but I try not to hold that against him.
The more the merrier
I can caravan with you guys. What time are you meeting at the Shell? I'm also bringing a friend (on his '05).
Not sure when we should meet. I guess it depends on how much wrenching needs to happen before the ride. Pandy?
Also, do we want to change meet up location to the Starbucks in EPA off University Ave (by Ikea, Best Buy, etc)? Or am I the only coffee whore?
When is this again? Im interested but is it like tomorrow? haha
It's Sunday! As Bob said, the more the merrier. :icon_mrgreen:
Ahhh bummer. My bike is down, waiting for my rotor to come back from Bob!
Oh, the irony!
Well, Bob does a fantastic job so it's worth the wait! :thumb:

It's a '06. Jeez. I too will be joining the caravan. I'm flexible with both the time and location.
Also, hello to everyone. Sanjay roped me into riding a while ago and I've been at it for about month now. As this will be my first group ride, feel free to give me any pointers you've got.
Hi Kortz,
You must be the friend that Sanjay was commenting on this thread:
http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=42100.0
Welcome! I look forward to meeting you on Sunday! :thumb:
This is good recommended reading: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=38355.0
As for any additional info, I'll sit back and listen with you as the more experienced riders chime in. This will be my first time doing a group (more than two) ride, too!
Sounds like were going to have a good group for once :icon_mrgreen:
I think we might change the route to a Big Sur ride instead of Carmel valley.
It was 106 :o today where I was working and that's not even in the valley.
On top of that we've had some local fires sprouting up.
There's a large one in the King City area which might even include south Carmel Valley road.
We can still head over Laureles grade and eat breakfast at the Running Iron in the Village.
Then head west on Carmel Valley Rd to Hiway 1 and down the coast to Big Sur.
I'm definitely in for the caravan. I had to postpone my track day, so the emergency fixes have become more of a "sure would be nice to at some point. He's ugly, but he's still my baby. ;)
After the caravan over, I'll play things by ear. Today's my first day back riding, so I'm not sure my body will accept a caravan ride, a GS ride, and then a caravan ride back..... :cookoo:
What's the addie of the Shell station we're meeting at, and have we set a time yet? I'll read the whole thread again later tonight, but....as of now....I've got to go get ready to HIT THE ROAD again (no, no, no...not literally! :flipoff: :icon_mrgreen:
Can't wait can't wait can't wait! :icon_mrgreen:
Kortz - Welcome! 1st pointer, or tip: always stay in the mirror of the bike in front of you, that way he (or she) knows where you are, but back far enough (1 second) so they can see the lane next to you in case of a lane change (this way they can see if there is a car in the lane next to you; wouldn't be fair to change lanes, with a car next to you).
2nd: try to leave a stop sign at the same time the rider to your left does. Kinda like what CHiPs do, but leaving a larger space between you ( I follow a different line, a wider arc, if you so please, and stay slightly behind the lead bike (left turns and going straight)). Be prepared for an immediate stop on the shoulder on the opposite side of the road, this often happens if there is a lot of traffic and allows the group to re-collect on the side of the road. You still need to watch out for traffic, for your own safety; sometimes the left rider can be...how say...a 'holeshot', and see just enough room for him and gun it.
Pandy - I hope you feel better, and good enough to ride down there, at least.
The sure-est way to meet me would be to take the Lawrence exit, turn right, and meet me at the Chevron on the right corner.
Wish I could come. have fun guys!
Okay, I'm going to make an executive decision here. :icon_mrgreen:
Let's meet up at the Embarcadero Shell Gas station (1161 Embarcadero Rd, 94303) at 8am. We'll be responsible for our coffee fix beforehand.
Then we pick up Scratch off Lawrence at the Cheveron.
And then make the slow mosey down to Bob's. :thumb:
I have a confession to make: I've been fighting a cold since Thursday and am still not feeling all that well. I can't believe that I may miss this ride! I was hoping that I would feel better in the morning, and still am hoping. I do not want to miss this!
Hey Scratch, I hope you feel better! Hopefully you'll be able to make it but rest up at home if you have to. There's always the next ride! :thumb:
Ok....Shell at 1161 Embarcadero Rd, 94303....is there a *$ nearby? If so, I'm in for 7:30ish at *$ and THEN Shell ...then we'll swing by for scratch if he's feelin' up to it...Chevron at Lawrence...call if you're not gonna make it, scratch, and we'll bypass that stop...anyplace else???
Then off to Bob's!
Are we going to take off from Salinas to make it back at least to the tail end of the BARF bash in Redwood City? I'd really, really, really like to stop by there (ends at 5PM). Lotsa good prizes being raffled~~~~

There is a *$ nearby. Instead of exiting Embarcadero, take University toward East Palo Alto. Right on E. Bayshore. Left into the shopping center. It's next to Best Buy. 1745 E Bayshore Rd, 94303.
Friend is coming from SF so I may need to have coffee ready for him when he gets here. That, or I can just convince him to meet us at Starbucks. :icon_mrgreen:
I too, am feeling pretty under the weather. I'll wake up and see how I feel, but chances are I won't make it... next time, though. I'll call you if I'm going to go, but assume I'm not  Kortz better still go, though, considering I helped him change his bars today.
I'm still stuffed up.
I hope you all have a good and safe ride!
Uh Oh....I'm not feelin' so hot, either....plus soreness from yesterday is sinking in.....uh......can we reschedule this, Bob???
Awww man! :o :o :o
Let me know what's what, Bob. Sounds like we just lost the cavalry here. Rescheduling?
I'm heading out the door to the Shell on Embarcadero.

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Beach (kinda, not really)
Pronator "pandies" (twice...on Kortz)
Riverside Inn (live music and sunny lawns :) )
Back to Bob's
Home on 101N
Had an awesome time! :thumb:
(I hope you sick people are feeling better. ;) )
Glad it was a great ride! :icon_mrgreen: <--me green with envy (Sorry to hear you pandy'd your bike...twice :o).....
Hopefully Bob will have a do-over....
Yeah, we'll have more rides for sure :thumb:

I'm glad you guys had a good ride.
There's a long holiday weekend coming up!
This Sundays fine with me :thumb:
What??
Nobody wants to ride this Sunday :dunno_white:
This weekend's out for me.
I can't this Sunday...but I can the following Saturday or Sunday (as long as I don't have to ride alone).... Sanjay? Pro?? Bob?? sik?? :icon_mrgreen:
Next weekend's out for me, too. The first weekend date that I have free and clear is Sunday, 27 July 08.
But have lots of fun!
I can do the 27th, too....anyone else?? Bob? Sanjay? scratch! Can't you just dump your camping equipment and take off on your bike that Sunday???? ;)
July 27 it is
That should be enough lead time for everyone. :icon_mrgreen:
Anyone coming down for Motogp on the 19/20 :dunno_white:
I rode up the 1 from San Luis to north of Gorda/south of Big Sur today - BOY IS IT AMAZING!
Ill be coming up for MotoGP as well with a bunch of friends.
I'm not sure how much farther north you can go on hiway 1 right now.
Because of the Basin fire it is closed between Ventana and Eselon.
We were turned around by the CHP at Ventana on our ride a couple weeks ago.
You could see the fire over the hill and airplanes fighting the fire.
I wanted to get to Nepenthe which was just a few corners away, but had to turn around
and go back to the River Inn.
The fire is 80% contained so far. By the time you come up, the road should be open.
But 101 might be a better choice (less fun though).
I live about 10 minutes from the track, in Salinas.
Hotel rates should be much better there. I'd make reservations now if you haven't already.
Well be on just a day ride up and back.
Highway 1 is closed at Pfeiffer Burns state bark or however you spell it, basically right at Big Sur.
Now I know why my bike felt so crappy :cookoo: ...hopefully getting the parts and fixing this week...certainly before the 27th!!!!
Well, Big Sur is NOT looking good right now.
The fire is only 3% contained and spreading toward the River inn where we stopped last time.
35 miles of hiway 1 is blocked off right now.
We'll be heading down Carmel valley on the 27th
Everybody get your bikes ready so we can get a bigger group together
No wimping out :flipoff: :bs: :2guns:
My baby's getting forked this morning! Can't wait!! I'm going to invite some friends here to ride shotgun with me, too, so hopefully we'll have some GSTwin'r's and some friends of GSTwin'r's!!!! :icon_mrgreen:
Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :kiss3: :thumb:
Bump! :icon_mrgreen:
Houston, we have a problem
I crashed my Vespa last night. Motor seized on hiway 1 coming home from Cannery row.
I got slammed hard :flipoff: Right side is bruised badly, (chest, hip, gashed lip, chipped teeth) so I can't walk let alone ride.
Not a pretty picture. I use my moms walker to get around.
There's no reason why everyone can't come down and meet at my house. The Big Sur route is open and they're open
for business. I might be healed up enough to function by then :dunno_white:
ACK!!!! Bob!!!! I'm so sorry!!!!   :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3:
Bob, it sounds as though you are pretty banged up. There's absolutely NO reason to push yourself, and given my recent experience, I'm thinking that you're still not going to be feeling so well next weekend. :o We want you to be able to ENJOY our visit, not be in pain.
Should we reschedule to August?? scratch might be able to join us then, too! :icon_mrgreen:
Do you need anything?? :kiss3:
I'll survive :thumb:
I've got enough vicodin for now
Just have to avoid sneezing, coughing or laughing :2guns:
We can reschedule for anytime you want ;)
But like I said, you guys can just stop in and say hi on your way to Big Sur if everyone still wants to do it without me.
Oh no! :o
Glad you're okay though! :kiss3: :kiss3: :kiss3:
I'm all for rescheduling. You're the only reason we'd trek all the way down there, Bob!
I hope you're resting up and the Vespa's going to be repairable. :thumb:
I'll be fine. I'm already seeing a slight improvement since yesterday. Or maybe it's just the drugs kickin in :icon_mrgreen:
The Vespa was barely hurt :o. I just finished repainting the bodywork from the last time, so it was looking good.
It only has 1 small area on the (right) side pod where the paint is scratched. The stainless crash bars did their job.
I can grind off the scrapes and polish them out :thumb:
I took the brunt of the damage. I aint as pretty as i was though. The sheild on the open face helmet came off when the right side hit. I must have rolled and scraped 3 front teeth and gashed my upper lip. No pain at all though :icon_lol:

So, this does beg the question of if we should do a more local ride on Sunday since the time's been reserved and all. :icon_mrgreen:
I could go either way on this. I'd love to put in a good day of riding but there's also a ton of stuff I need to do at home. May turn into a day of wrenching instead?
Didn't see anything on BARF for a Sunday ride and no Doc Wong ride that day either. Any ideas from folks who can make it to ride?

Since the Monterey ride is postponed, here's (http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=257825) the one I'm going to do on Sunday. Yana is an extremely experienced rider, and she hosts GREAT rides! There are usually 2-3 groups, and if there are really, REALLY new riders, a fourth will be created just for them (and Yana leads the n00biest n00bs...she's da bomb!).
All are welcome!!! :icon_mrgreen: If ya' feel like joining up but you're shy, feel free to PM me for my cell #, and I'm happy to chat before the group ride so that you feel as though you know someone already! :thumb:
