Last time I checked children need basically the same things regardless of color...they need a home, food, love, friends, toys, etc. What's the class supposed to teach the parents? How to cook fried chicken and pork chops?

My aunt and uncle, white folks, have four adopted children, three of whom are black. I can understand the part of the training which was said to deal with the race-specific challenges which arise. Namely the problems of other people's bigotry toward bi-racial families. But the rest is garbage. My cousins are indeed healthy mentally and physically and I think are very lucky to have the parents whom they do have. I just cannot believe that race would be a determining factor on where to place the children...wow man some people have WAY too much time on their hands to think and make up dumb and harmful plans. I prefer to call a neighborhood a neighborhood because it sounds unifying, as opposed to "white/black/hispanic/mixed". Just like African American or Anglo American sounds seperated, and in my opinion, dumb.
As far as someone calling me names like cracker, that doesn't happen very often. Maybe I'm an imposing dude, or just too scary looking, I dunno. Maybe it's the type of crowd I'm usually around too. Eliminating the negative and latching onto the positive has worked pretty well for me so far :)

Who said anything about predispositions? I said I've never met a black woman who couldn't cook up a good chicken. I then asked if you've ever met a black woman who couldn't cook up a good chicken (a question you failed to answer). The only thing that has to do with race is the commonality of the black women I've know to be able to cook a good chicken.
Lets break it down another way: It is not to say that all black women can cook a mean chicken, but that the mean chickens I've had were all cooked by black women.
Finding kinship between cooking chicken and hating a person because of the color of their skin can only be accomplished by an idiot.
"They" want a mongrelized "raceless" society, which would in theory be actually easier to "control", instead of a "tribal-like" situation. You see, as long as there are races, there will be racism. And it's perfectly normal. The main goal is to instill white guilt, which has been quite successful via all media outlets, from school books, to cartoons, to movies, so called novels, and so forth. This white European based society in the USA is under a many tiered attack from 360 degrees each and every waking day from those that have "the money" and the wherewithall to do this. The "joe average taxpayer" gets jackhammered so much that even "he/she" begins to think it is normal. The end result will be socialism with momma and daddy government taking most all of your check and distributing it to the have nots. This will end up being on a global scale, I'm afraid. The sad part about it is that due to the indoctrination from so many forms of mass media over the last 40+ years, what you end up with are sheeple (sheep people), men with no testicles, women that actually believe they have balls and will actually line up to get a red hot poker up the ass if "the government" tells them it will "help the children" and be for "the good of us all". In short.........we need an awakening, an awakening of who and what real men and women ARE/were. Ditch the feminists, the emasculated-effiminate males, and spineless politicians that represent us. We need a new political party of "real America". We need to "go back in time". You have TOTALLY missed his point..even as far back as his original post.
The original sentiment was that it is absurd to think that, for instance, a white couple would somehow need to 'learn' how to 'raise' a black baby. To say that type of trainning is necessary implies that black children are somehow a lower species FROM BIRTH. It treats the baby's color as if it were a birth defect...that it is on par with mental retardation, downs syndrome, etc, and that people need to learn how to cope with such a circumstance. Makenzie's point was that such a program is as demeaning to the child, and to the race in which it happens to belong, as it is to the adoptive parents.
His statement about learning to cook fried chicken was an obvious sarcastic slap in the face aimed at the people who came up with the idea for this ridiculus program...because that is probably the kind of stupid thing they would believe you would neeed to do to make the baby happy and well adjusted. I thought his meaning was quite obvious.
And, by all means, lets kill any dialog about race relations...if we ignore it, it will just go away. :icon_confused:

if any of you know adoptive parents (I know many) you would be AMAZED at how long and difficult the process to adopting a child is...its ridiculous what some have to go through. There should be 'classes' for everyone on how to raise children properly.

I know a couple. My parents are adopters, yes, it wasn't easy to actually adopt a child, even 30+ years ago. My siblings turned out ok. There were no parenting classes. My wife was also adopted, her mother is a real gem. I appreciate all the love and understanding she rained onto my wife. Great parents = better kids.
Yes, there should be classes for raising children. THey're free, well defined, and easy to find if you actually want the lumps that come with asking YOUR GRANDPARENTS for their opinions. Careful though, they won't cut you any slack ;)

I long for the day when everyone just gets along. I'm white and I'm from Mississippi....born and raised here. There are quite a few people in my family who I consider to be racist. Mostly older folks; Aunts, Uncles, Grandfather. I used to have several black friends. Really good friends, most of whom I still am friends with to this day. But a few years ago I began to see what was happening. Most whites were being nice to blacks and treating them with the respect that any human deserves. The blacks, on the other hand, weren't playing nice. I began hearing words such as reparations and affirmative action. I began to see blacks acting as if I owed them something. Even some of my "friends" who are my age began having a bad attitude towards me. I'm 29. I've never owned a slave, never wanted a slave, and have never seen a slave. I surround myself with positive thinking people. I try to anyway. The general consensus of my friends is this: Blacks have gone too far. They have black history month, Miss Black America, BET, NAACP, run almost every major city in America, and anywhere there is a large population of blacks, as compared to other races, there is more crime. Where's the White history month, Miss White America, WET, NAAWP? If any of those were to become a reality, there would be riots in the streets. Those are facts. Even my black friends agree with me. I am part of a younger generation than my ancestors. I don't need to know that blacks were slaves, or how they were treated. How will anything ever get "fixed" or worked out if there is no discussion? It's true that black women can cook fried chicken. Come to Mississippi and stop anywhere and ask where to get the best chicken. I guaran-damn-tee you they won't say KFC. They'll tell you to go find a soul food restaurant. They're everywhere here. EVERY soul food restaurant I have ever been to has black women as cooks. I'm not so sure that all black women can cook chicken.....I just know that ALL of the ones I have ever been around can cook like crazy. It may not be a fact in Florida, but it is where I come from.
i wonder if there will be classes offered to people wanting to adopt kids from any race ?

So this morning I awake to an email that a student at the university I go to was robbed and shot/stabbed last night on the street I'm living on next year. Two black gentlemen, so apparently white parents have to go to a class so they can raise them to be like that?
Sorry for the stereotyping and racism, I'm just pretty pissed about the whole thing. I know not all are like that.
I even just read an autobiography called "Coming of Age in Mississippi" about a black girl growing up poor in the south, after reading that I was about as sympathetic as you can get. Then you hear about something like what happened last night and it really just floors me.
I fail to see a need for a class if you're a white couple wanting to adopt a black child. he/she is just the same as a white child except for skin color.
parents who give birth need classes in many cases I think. and some good firm discipline wouldnt hurt the kids either. a good whack when they step out of line, and they're gonna be just fine. just dont get carried away. I see this as being the bigger problem than ANYTHING in kids these days, theres a very large lack of discipline.

I'm with the Federal Aviation Administration. I teach Air Traffic Control Radar Systems. I should clarify that I don't teach the controllers how to use it, I teach the Maintenance Techs, Second Level Support personel, and Engineers how to keep them working and how to fix 'em when they brake.

Yeah there's a lots of questions but it's ingrained bigotry of society that prevent each of them from having a simple answer...like "maybe he's adopted" or "they're babysitting" or "maybe his/her first relationship/marriage didn't work". SIMNET...They've all been upgraded recently. Still using the old fiberglass shells from the 80's but each has about a half a million dollars worth of computers to run them. Graphics are MUCH better than they used to be. If you're ever in MS, message me and we'll let you come by and play on them. They can be a lot of fun. Screw xbox or playstation...... O0
Hehe, we have a 747-400 Simulator in the building next to mine. The real deal...on big-ass hydrolic legs. Cost about 15 million dollars. The guys that run it are pretty cool, so about twice a year I take them a couple dozen donuts and they let me 'play'. That MF'er is FUUUUUUUNNN!!!
When they put in the ultra-severe weather simulations, that thing will put your stomach up in your throat! :o
