I was just switching my motorcycle insurance to State Farm, since that's where my auto and renters policies already are. I wanted to add medical coverage because my health ins wont cover injuries due to a motorcycle accident. The lady I was talking to said this is common, especially in the past few years with skyrocketing health ins costs. (health ins. companies cut out whatever they can to keep rates lower)
Anyway, my question is how much coverage should I get? My given options are $1k, $5k, $10k, $20k, $25k, and $50k.
On one hand, most accidents where I get hurt I'd probably have just a few thousand in medical expenses, but on the other hand, if I really get hurt bad, is $50k even enough?

You're sure of this? My medical insurance says nothing about not covering motorcycle related stuff. Not that I don't think they're capable of hiding it somewhere. As most of us are aware, there's nothing in the law that says the med insurance companies can't discriminate against "high risk" individuals. This includes pilots, motorcyclists, sky divers, rock climbers, etc.
However, I do have uninsured / underinsured motorist and medical coverage. I have $250,000 per person $500,000 per accident underinsured / uninsured though State Farm. It isn't very expensive, maybe $50 a year.
Liability must equal underinsured / uninsured, so I have the same liability coverage. The increased liability limits add about $100 or so per year to the basic coverage. Somehow I doubt the Baby G could cause $500,000 worth of damage.
50k isn't even close to enough in todays economy. I broke my thumb and sustained no other real injuries in my wreck and my medical bills wound up being almost $30k..............for a broken thumb. :cookoo:
Denial of medical insurance claims for what insurers consider high risk activities is on the rise. Prior to the enactment of HIPPA insurers would just not offer health insurance to people, Insurance companies have since found a loophole in the HIPPA act and we are trying to get it closed.

My health inurance does cover me for motrcycling horseback ridng etc. On the provision that I am not racing or injured during the commision of a felony.
Lucky for us guys down under all our medical expenses are covered by 3rd part injury insurance. Everyone that has a registered vehicle has this insurance. Pay to rego your vehicle and close to all medical is covered.
LOL I have my 3rd party claim number already and will be using it starting Saturday when I go to the docs for accident I had with Stealth Granny on Wednesday.
Cover yourself for as much as you can comfortably afford
Same here , 3 party protects everything as long as it was another persons fault
