Title: Fuel tank cushions, where do they go exactly?
Post by: w00derson on June 06, 2008, 07:34:43 AM
After pulling my tank, I realized that there weren't any cushions there they were supposed to be. I was missing number 9 and 10 on the fiche. Number 9 is pretty self explanatory, but where do the number 10's go? I'm going to be putting them on today and wanna get them in the right spot.

#9 goes over the lip on the very front of the tank (you'll know when you see it).  I'm not sure about #10.

Yes, number 9 is pretty obvious. Its the 10's that are stumping me  :dunno_white:

I believe they're supposed to go between the lip of the tank and the frame on each side.  Mine doesn't have them and I'm thinking it's the reason my tank resonates between 5 and 6k like bombadillo's does.  On the bikebandit website, under the '02 year, that part is #9 and is described simply as: Cushion, Fuel Tank.  I'll bet it goes between the tank and the frame on each side.

Yeah, it goes on the bottom of the tank and there will be two little wear spots on the frame from where they were about the same size.

Thanks guys. I'll have to check and see if I can see where they go/went before. I am also hoping that is the reason my tank resonates between 5 and 6k.

I thought everybody's tank resonated between 5 and 6k.  You could always just wedge a piece of foam between the tank and frame or cut a piece of fuel/vaccuum hose and put it between there.  I don't know. :dunno_white:

Well, I do have all 3 rubber cushions. I ordered them and they came in on Tuesday. I figure they should at least help with the vibration. I would assume with no cushion for the tank, you would get much more vibration. The previous owner must have lost them, because they were no where to be found. I'll be reinstalling my tank later with the cushions, so we'll see how much of a difference it makes.

i was missing #9 but the po was nice enough to put a chunk of leather there to make sure the tank didnt sit on the frame

Well, I got all of the cushions on. It makes a big difference, much less vibration in the gas tank. I'm happy. :)
