Title: Here we go again.....
Post by: bucks1605 on June 07, 2008, 11:17:53 AM
I was cruising around craigslist today and I saw this 2000 TL1000R up for sale. It does have a rebuilt salvage title, but the price is almost irresistible. What do you think? I emailed the guy for some more information.

Its looks good with the Info mentioned , however , Spark plugs and A fuel line is what 30 min max to a Unskilled person ? so the fact he cant even do that , how well serviced or maintained do u recon ? Over here , u can get a FSH .. Full service History that shows how its been maintained , im sure u get it over there ... i just wonder why if it just needs the most basixc work needed , that he cant do it.. Im going to get it runs rough , or doesnt get fuel very well , as these are the points he mentions in very slim detail .. otherwise.... bargin!

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I remember he had it up before at a higher price, and he said something about it being stored in his sister's garage or something. I just wish I was home right now so I could go look at it.

2000 .. is it a  a FI model? .. coz if its running crappy , could be a simple remap , but if its bein a while . could have some hidden expensive costs

On google, got this link

http://miami.craigslist.org/mcy/702112676.html

he wants 4300 for his TL R         same year .. etc . what is the difference between the bikes that would save you 2300 bucks??

I'm not sure, but I'd love to find out. I'm sure the rebuilt salvage title is a contributing factor.

Location?  :dunno_white:

Maybe the rich celebs down in Miami are willing to pay more?

I emailed the seller asking how his bike obtained the dreaded salvage title, but he hasn't responded yet.

If it has a salvage title. Those bikes hold their value so it's been wrecked multiple times,or it's been wrecked hard. That maybe the reason for the poor running condition. If so,it may have some serious engine damage. If you can check it out, find that it's not that or that it's not going to cost a lot to fix.You could sell it for a profit and buy another bike.

Not being in the Usa i would have no idea how Location would make such a difference , however at the price of Gas , id rather pick up something cheaper further away

That isnt the case in the Uk .. bikes are not cheaper in a area ,

Just boogles Me that this dude is cutting his balls off .. 2300 is Alot of money , u could buy one bike 2 times , with gas money left over...

I just dont no why someone would do that , Greed is in every mans heart , so why would he not? .. Id take D or someone with you to look over it , Frankie also had a TL R , i think it was for the track tho

That's what I'll tell my parents when I tell them I want to go look at it.

Just got a response from the guy, he sold it today to the first person who emailed him. Just my luck...

btw can also be salvage if it was a writeoff. either severe engine damage, or minor crap. i went to an auction and almost bought a vmax, with one. came from a dealership in indiana i believe that caught fire. this bike, only had a fine layer of soot on it. while others were scrap. BUT all were written off

Every once in a while you come across a good deal like that. I missed out today.

Ehh it happens, basically use this as a reference. if you see something like this again ( and it WILL happen) look at it and move quickly. cause others will as well

Maybe over the summer something will pop up, it's really difficult to move quickly on a good find when you're 100 miles away from home at school. But I'm finally done Thursday.

i miss my tlr  it was the fastest, torquiest, most track and twisty bike i have owned or ridden....and i have owned or ridden them all.  before the 299 kph governors were added the tlr would do 320 plus all day long.  i had a full yosh system on mine as well as titanium valves and a bunch of performance mods.  i wrecked her and it was one of the worst days ever...i was soooo upset.

No worries, the bike was probably sold by the time I posted this thread.

I found another one. For some reason the new bike bug is biting me hard, I really just need to kill it but I can't.

that bike is 10 years old, BUT have a look and see if maintenance was performed to spec, and such

I have always liked the R over the S. Styling, better front brakes, more power

+1, the R looks a ton sexier, has 4 more pistons between the calipers and a good bit more power.

I agree the R looks better not to mention the better performance.  I'll keep looking, there is an '04 Ducati 800ss for sale locally. $3,500, but it has a salvage title. It was a theft recovery, very tempting.

i am soooo buying a sv1000s.  i was going to get a red r1 but unless you are going in a straight line the 998 Suzuki vtwin is impossible to beat...well maybe with the RC51.  when i had my tlr1000 i spanked r1s, 998's, gixxers u name it on the track. nothing has the torque, look or sound of the sv1000, tls1000 or best tlr1000

Definitely agree with you there. My next bike will be another twin, I'm hooked on 'em. Or a low priced duc, I've been drawn to them a lot lately.
