So , I just picked up a 2006 with 299 miles on it. I let my friend ride it around the block, and after about 15 min, I see him pushing the bike down the street. He didnt wreck! He said he popped the clutch and the rear tire tweaked abit casusing the alignment to be off and the tire to rub. I checked it yesterday and the part that you align the tire with was bent into the subframe, the tie moved about an inch. So, I pulled everything off and bent it back, should I trust this part or should I buy a new one? For a image, it's the rectangle piece of metal that helps pull the tire back for alignment purposes. Now I cant get the alignment right the right side where the brakes caliper is at wants to sit about a alignment mark off the other side. Any help, hopefully nothing is bent. By the way he told me he was trying to do wheelie!!! That's what I get when I let someone ride a gs when they are used to riding 750s, and all you have to do it give it gas and the front end wants to come up.
while he caused the damage, your bike was unsafe. he could have been hurt/maimed/killed by it. :(
the rear axle is torqued heavily (see the wiki for exact inch pounds) to prevent the axle moving. the adjusters should not be needed once the wheel is aligned, as they are for alignment -only-. you should be able to dump the clutch @ 8,000 rpm, slam on the rear brake @ 100 mph, etc and the axle not move at -all-.
have him buy you a new/used adjuster if you don't trust the one that bent, and depending on how good a friend is.
i wouldn't let him ride again unless he promises not to whoolie it ;)
That axle adjuster plate has often gotten bent on the new GS'es ... wonder if they made it out of extra shitty material ...

Yeah, I agree with ohgood, the bike was real unsafe, I had just picked up the bike the night before. really didnt have time to check the bike over, but he wanted to ride it. Im not to worried about the adjuster plate then. But it does scare me about what else might be lose. Thanks budda, Did you ever get those forks fixed?
Don't trust the marks on the swing arm.They are notorious for being off.I measure from the center of the swing arm pivot bolt to center of the axle bolt.
