Title: Desmosedici RR
Post by: trickniner on June 09, 2008, 06:40:24 AM
I saw not one, but two this Sunday.  I met up with a couple of friends down at Marcus Dairy in Danbury CT.  Apparently every Sunday morning when it is riding season around here Marcus turns into a small bike show where everybody meets up early morning before they head out for a ride.  I didn't bring my Camera so I apologize for not having any pictures, next time for sure.  It was just really impressive to see two of those machines parked next to each other.  It was probably 150,000 dollars worth of motorcycles within 10 feet of each other.

The thing that killed me was the riders had to be in their late 50's maybe even early 60's with full Dianese leathers and gear which alone was probably another 3 grand, all completely spotless.  Seems like one of the cases of two much money and not enough skill.

Anybody else in CT ever head down there on weekends?

most of the d16rr's were shipped to dealers in the NE, and delivered to persons who edged their way onto the list through already owning a 999r.

don't let the age/crotchityness of those guys fool you. there's a guy 'round here with a sv650, b-king, and a couple of triumphs that will out ride quite a few ;)

That's true I shouldn't assume anything by their age, and after all those are probably the kind of guys who can actually afford to drop 72,000 on a bike anyway.  But there where other give aways that at least one of the riders was just trying to look cool.  Full race leathers which where spotless, knee pucks that never touched the ground (I guess he could have just replaced them) and you could tell the edges of his rear tire never comes close to the pavement.

I guess I shouldn't be such a whiney Buddha Loves You.  It probably just comes down to me being jealous.  I didn't mention it before but it sounded like the bikes are powered by the devil.

The devil himself couldn't touch a D16RR, they're f%$king insane.

I probably should have mentioned this before:  I would cut off my own balls and put it on youtube for a D16RR.

A guy on the Duc board has 800ss heads for sale for $350, just needs new valves and guides (not damaged just were removed at one point for use in another application) and the piston/jug kit can be had for 1300 direct from FBF, could probably dump my current pistons for a few hundred and flywheels are only 200 from FBF.

of what, his laco-o-nads? no thanks, lol. btw terry got to ride with several ducs at the dragon. i had to cut my ride short case we had to pull a streetfightered r1 out of the ditch. dude didnt even make it through the first turn. i had to assist him in getting the thing runbning, and teh shifter reattached with hose clamps so he coud get it welded back on. but damn those ducs, all sounded awesome in the area. i cant remember how many times i had to explain desmo to people, hell even the owners were impressed, that a gs rider could explain a duc faster than some iof them could. i still want a paso tho

OK, i googled up "Desmosedici RR" to see what all the fuss was about. And then... well... sorry, THAT is $70,000 ? I was expecting umbrella girls, umbrellas, a cooler stocked with ice cold brews, and race trailer (air conditioned of course), a turbo diesel to pull said trailer, and a Exxon-Mobile gas card to cover 5 years worth of riding/trailering + snacks.

But it's just a bike ? Pfffffft.

I'm recalling the fine Itallian steel road racing frames (pedal bikes) that were $5-6000 each. Sure, they were pretty with frenched in hand-filed gussets and all that but once it's dropped and scratched,  it didn't really matter much.

I can appreciate art as much as the next guy (ok, well, maybe) but that's insane.

Sit me on a 20 year old gs, a 40 year old cruiser, or heck just a moped. I can have just as much fun on those ;)

Same here, I would be so paranoid that I'd drop it or get hit or something stupid.

If you would like a bit more info on it and to hear it you can watch this:

http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/video_player.shtml?vid=257627

The 70+ grand you are paying for the bike isn't going towards a bike to have fun on on the weekend with.  You would be right to assume you could do that with any bike.  It is paying for a street legal version of Ducati's 2006 MotoGP Race bike and all the insane technology and engineering that goes into it.  It weighs a little more then a GS and makes 200 hp.  It might be that I'm so impressed with it because I am a big fan of the racing series that it was created from.

I much prefer the looks of the Truimph daytona , Once they release a 1000cc Version (which wouldnt Surpise me )  Watch out Ducati , they already own the 600cc Class  :thumb:

Dude, I'm done.  I'm too tired and old for bullshit.  If a bunch of idiots that couldn't afford this bike if they sold both their f%$king kidneys want to talk shaZam!, let them.  People talk shaZam! about Ferrari's and much like the D16RR there aren't many Ferrari's left unspoken for after a model year roll out so someone has to be buying them.

Y'all have fun bickering like school kids about something you have no personal experience with and most likely never will.

Peace.
