7 pounds in 12 days on Atkins diet. So easy it isn't funny.
I know induction is a temp process but I can see myself losing 20 pounds easy with this food plan.
AND I have been drinking a few low carb Michelob Ultra (2.6g) beers and still losing :mrgreen:
Still I am counting carbs and keeping under 20 most every day - some days I go over by a few but I am keeping it close.
Good job! After another few days, start watching your ketones (pick up a box of ketostix). Good luck.

Ketones? Aren't those some sort of protien in your blood? I am winging this diet. I admit I didn't read a dang thing, I got a carb counting list, some free advice and a bunch of steak. I'll stay on this for a couple more weeks then slowly ease myself into a few more veggies and maybe a piece of fruit a day. I think I'll stay off bread and sugar for a long while.

I wish I could get through the induction phase of the Atkins diet, but I get so sick of meat and eggs I just can't stand it.
From my understanding, ketosis has to do with the ph of your body. If you don't get enough calories, and your body starts metabolising your muscles (because you don't really have any glycogen or fat left), your pH can drop (or is it rise? I think it becomes more basic instead of acidic) significantly and this can be dangerous. I know that some anorexic people who have died, have died because of ketosis. (Basically you are starving yourself.) But I could be full of shaZam!. I think you are supposed to watch you ketones, just to make sure you don't get to the point that it is dangerous. I don't think it is easy to get to that point.

There is a modified Atkins diet out there too now. My new boss is doing it. Its something like no carbs for a few weeks then reintroduce them slowly. Isn't teh atkins no carbs all the time or something.

Ketone bodies are the by products of both fat and protein metabolism Actually when fats are broken down the byproducts are ketone bodies and an alcohol, a form of glycerol. As far as aerobic respiration goes, the alcohol product goes into the kreb's cycle and most of the ketones are lost in the urine. Ketosis can be a pathological condition, but it is also used as a diagnostic tool in both weight loss programs and for diabetes.

Keep up on the high water intake, 20 carbs a day sounds alittle low, but your choice. my induction program was 32 per day. again i still ate vegies and some fruits just didnt over do it. hardboiled eggs, alittle Beef jerky (home made) this was from breakfast to lunch, and dinner was meat, and sometimes a salad touch of oil/vinagar and a squeeze of a lemon wedge on top, NO CRUTONS. but above all water water water. i drink crystal lite to break up the Boredum of water but still primary intake is water. i admit, never did the keytone strips. i just watch the inches melt, and even though im back up to 255, im still trimming(been working out)

I started "dieting" recently...(But I misbehaved on the "diet" the last week or so...was on vacation...). I lost 19 pounds in the first 4-5 weeks..
I think I gained back about 5 back last week...but I'm still "ahead" of where I started
All I did was cut out most of the soda I drank... Watched my fat intake -tried to keep it under 20 grams everyday and did not eat anything after say- 7- 8 pm.....(Always try to go to bed a little hungry...)
The 20 John mentioned may have been fat-grams.
Drink more water.... Keeping hydrated really helps.

Was 184 want to be 160. I will never drink sugar soda again and as many know sugar soda is a big cause of getting fat. Cutting that and way down on bread should be enough to maintain once I get there. it was very slow going on so I should be able to stay in control when I stop dieting.
good job, but my suggestion is to make that beer so cold that your body has to work hard enough to make up for the calories you are intaking. and just get ripped every meal. ingeneous i know. i think i will call it the freezin off the fatskins diet. :cheers: now i just need to think of a way to repair the liver from this diet...
