So theres a 1984 Kawasaki GPZ750 Turbo in my driveway that needs the turbo rebuilt. I can't find a all-inclusive kit out there so I have to call a dealer and order the parts separately...but I can't do that, either, because apparently it doesn't exist.

(got boost gauge?!)
Seems pretty real to me... :icon_rolleyes:
I say "I need the turbo oil seals for a 1984 GPZ750 Turbo". He then asks me who made that. Had I not been on the phone I'd have slapped him...it's a Kawasaki dealership...some things you're allowed to assume. He then says "ok, GZ1100...I can't find a GZ1100 in 1984." After that correction he tells me "they didn't make a turbo gpz until 1985" followed by "the gpz isn't a turbo bike." I nearly punched myself I wanted to hit something so bad.
It should be mandatory that, if you're going to work at a dealership, you have basic knowledge of the manufacturer's model history and the ability to USE a parts microfiche and cross reference.
this is a sure sign you are at least one generation older than the hired help. ouch ;)
not quite...better sign was along the lines of:
"Hi, I need a set of points for a Yamaha XS650."
"A set of what?"

Oh man, yes, I understand the frustration completely Mak. Been there! The urge to throw something is almost too much to resist.
i use it as a test to see if ill take my business there or not. like calling an auto parts place looking for a water pump for a 1973 super beetle :icon_twisted:, course i work on my own bikes, ( gotta use the training for somethign ya know lol)
This girl who works in a local dealership asked to help me, I said I needed a front fender ,then she asked if it's the right or left one :o
At least she knew how to answer the phone :dunno_white:
Its because in the Kawasaki parts Fiche its not a GPZ750 its a ZX750E1 Turbo :thumb:
You need parts? I doubt they are still available but PM me and I ll get em for you.
Scott I basically need all the gaskets and oil seals associated with rebuilding the turbo. See what you can find for me...I can't even find a fiche that has the parts listed.

Tell me you made that up... please.
oh it happens, there is such a labor shortage in the US that experience is not necessary
im glad there are only 2 dealers in my area, both of which are family owned and run. the only people not in their families working for them are either very experienced or friends of the family that are very experienced.
the only problem with most of them is they are either dirt or harley riders haha
Yea i did make it up lol
the 2 motorbike shops i deal with are both ex racers , that run the stores themselves , yet keep there prices damn good , i cant see the point of dealing with a faceless dealership who just want to take your money away
E'g , i took my bike to a mot , what i didnt relise is that i had lost a header bolt , and it was making the exhaust to loud , as it was coming off over bumps ,
He let me dig thro a massive pile of bolts , and let me use all the tools in his garage , did a free retest and passed me ,
another example i needed a spark plug , but didnt have any money on me , he just gave me one and said dont worry about it , i deal with you all the time ,
Just nice people
Mak,,,
I have the parts fiche for it but I have no idea what I am looking for :icon_mrgreen: its not on our online fiche... Give me a better idea of what I am looking for and I will get you some prices
:thumb:
I don't have a fiche either so I don't really know haha
There's oil seals in the turbo...at least two of them...to prevent oil from entering the compressor or turbine. I need those, at least, and I need any gaskets in the turbocharger assembly.
OK... I am off for the weekend. On Monday I can take some screen shots of it and you can see what you need. If you dont find em by then

whew, I was gonna say! What's this world coming to.
I dont know if this is the right area or not... Let me know. There was no diagram for inside the turbo.

crap...no I need stuff inside the turbo.
I will check again @ work tomorrow but it looks like the turbo is considered one part :o There may be a rebuild kit or something :dunno_white:
Did you find any forums for it?
yeah and I got some leads on some guys that can rebuid it. It's more than I'd charge to rebuild but it'll be done by professionals and it'll save me from having to find someone here locally that can balance the shaft.
