Title: Alabama vs Florida "M" endorsement
Post by: ohgood on June 12, 2008, 08:28:26 AM
Since Florida and Alabama do not reciprocate, I figured I'd kill a few minutes with Alabama's online mess for "M".

Ya ya ya, no big deal, until (correct answers highlighted):

If you do have to travel on a slippery roadway, you should:
a) Slow down and coast with you feet on the roadway when necessary.

b) Keep the bike as upright as possible.
c) Grab the brakes hard to get some traction.
d) Both A and B are correct.

Coasting is now recommended for slippery conditions ? Mmm, OK, sure.

wait, it gets better:

A wobble can begin for many reasons, including load imbalance, under or over inflated tires, or mechanical trouble. If you experience a wobble, you should do all these things except:
a) Brake fast and hard to stop the problem quickly.

b) Shift your weight forward.
c) Get off the roadway as soon as you are safely able to.
d) Redistribute the load.

Did I miss a chapter, or did MSF revise things when I wasn't looking ?

PA has some good ones too...

I dont recall the exact wording but something like...

You are coming to an intersection a vehicle pulls in front of you causing you to lock up the rear wheel. what will happen?:

(A) You will go over the bars
(B) Low side
(C) Regain controll and pull out of it
(d) none of the above

???

Answer.. somehow is (C) regain controll ??? They know this how?

florida just changed their law.. in three weeks if you want a motorcycle license you have to take the safety course$500.. if you already have it you are grandfathered in.  You should see the people lined up waiting to take the test

Alabama obviously needs the money.

You should move up here to IL.  We don't give a shaZam! up here.  Hell, my neighbor doesn't even have plates on his semi.  The brakes leak, he has retreads on the steer tires, a basket short of a full set of lug nuts, and a few other "issues".  The county mounty doesn't care as long as he's hauling corn to the elevator.  :icon_mrgreen:

The roads still suck, but TN and MO aren't far away and we don't have vehicle inspections.  Tax on a used motorcycle is $50 too, regardless of price paid.  :thumb:

@scott: Yeah, I failed the PA test the first time.  The questions are just outright misleading.  My favorite was: "Which poses the greatest danger to a motorcyclist? [Picture: a 2-lane road with parallel parking]  a) A car pulling out from a parking space;  b) A car door opening;  c) A pedestrian walking onto the road from between two parked cars;  d) an oncoming car from the opposite direction."

Honestly I don't even remember the correct answer, but I believe it was supposed to be (a).  I'm pretty sure I said (b), because car doors can swing open in an instant with almost no indication, while a car pulling out generally doesn't occur as quickly.  But I really don't understand the point of that question.
