Title: GS vs Yamaha SZR660
Post by: Toenis on August 29, 2003, 09:34:02 AM
Why isn`t SZR660 mentioned as beginners bike or a bargain bike and so on? It weights about 150kg and has as much power as GS...
Good friend of mine is just about to buy one so be quick and tell me pros and cons of that Yamaha, please.

Looks like this:

Non-US model, bastards.

But we also dont get the Fazer 600...what makes this Yamaha better than the Yamaha Fazer 600? I'd think that teh Fizzer would be a better bike.

if I member correctly.....
the SZR660 was conceived in the early 90's...in england
SOS (Sound of Singles) racing was big and the brits were installing XT600/SRX engines in TZ250 chassis'  Yamaha saw them and decided to build a street bike.  the frame is suppose to be a slightly modified TZR250 chassis and the engine is basically a raptor/MZ 660 5 valve engine.  better than a fizzer...if you like to go around corners.
if you like to cruize on the hwy....

i wish we had them in the US
or a SDR200.....

Thanks for your imput,

I asked for that information as a good friend of mine wants to buy around 50hp bike and wanted a GS till I found that Yam SZR from Germany.

Now he will buy that SZR 660 and we will see what comes out of it. I hope he can not beat me on racetrack, hehehe.

So we losed a potential site member... but those SZR`s are from 96 and they go for 1500-2500 EUR - same price as GS and it got USD forks and everything ;)

BTW, did you know that a EFI from another Yam 750 can easyli installed on that one?

A Tour (naked), Traveller (faired), or Sport (half-faired).  They have a Sport Cup, but they're rarer.

I've had plenty of 650 singles, but nothing with this thing's stump-pulling torque.  Maybe because it's a quad engine, and tuned a bit higher?

Not necessarily a good noob bike compared to the GS - factory parts aren't as easy to get as for a a GS500, parts bikes and upgrades not as common, and the maintenance is a little trickier... but I had been looking for a GS500 as a cheap kick-around bike to play with, found this ratbike instead, and had to get it.  I'm calling it "Das Yamaha."

RG,
nothing personal....

YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i got a blue tank for one
tried to give it back to the owner and he said he never gave it to me
i might try to fit it to a gs frame.....plastic tanks do not rust

And they're lighter, too.

I don't know if it would fit, but it doesn't seem too far off just eyeballing it.  It's narrow like a GS tank.

Good point, now I'm a wannabe GS-er!  :D

What else in creation has a 7" headlight?  Searching the Intertubes is helping me not at all.
