Title: Best place to order chain/sprockets from online?
Post by: SIKDMAX on June 14, 2008, 02:56:57 PM
Since the bike is torn apart right now....

Time to do some more maintenance!

Need to pick up a chain and front sprocket for the bike.  I figure I can wait and get the best deal online since the bike wont be running for a couple weeks anyway.  What places have you used that you have good experiences with, or have cheap prices to order up a nice chain and front sprocket?

I have not yet had to replace the chain/sprockets, but when I do I will trust gsJack's suggestions:

Thanks Berto.  I knew I read that post but couldnt find it.

If I go down a tooth up front I could still use the stock 110 link length chain dontcha think?

I would think so, but use the method described on the bottom of the wiki sprocket page ("calculating required chain length") to be certain:

I've gotten sprockets from motorcyclesuperstore.com and cyclegear.com.   Both were great and fitment went on flawless.  I've got a stock 39t rear sunstar sprocket and a 14t front from cyclegear currently.  I'd stick with a 15/42 if I were to do it again.  Got a cheap roller chain that I constantly grease and its been great too.  Get a cheap 20 dollar chain and maintain it well and you won't have any problems, it made such a huge difference from the rusty p.o.s. that was on there.  It was like extra hp freed up instantly.

come to think of it, I am next for your progs in the for sale classifieds.  I have a brand new 15t and a used 39t in near new condition if you want those I could trade them if you knocked off a few bucks for shipping.  Seriously though, the cheap 20 dollar roller chain is great if you don't mind throwing it up on the centerstand every 3-600 miles and putting it in first and lubing it up.  Its cheap, easy, and its not like our little turd if fast enough to snap chains left and right anyway.
