Title: Maybe a bit squidish but oh well
Post by: Piper5177 on August 29, 2003, 07:28:50 PM
I got my bike all dialed in, and while out on a ride I pull up next to a guy in a Jaguar S type-R.  He revs his engine and I was like oh damn, I wonder if I can take 390 hp.  The light turns green and we take off.  I never even see him on my side, and as I'm hitting 90 I take a look over my shoulder and I'm still pulling away.  I let off the gas and roll up to the next intersection and the guy rolls down his window and says "that's a fast little bike!" or something close to that.  I gave him a thumbs up and made my left turn.  Just for kicks I looked up 0-60 and 1/4 mile for that car and it is 0-60/5.2, 1/4 mile 13.7.  I know my bike isn't stock, but it makes me curious as to what kind of numbers it would put up, maybe it's time to go to amatuer night at the strip....haven't been there since high school.

A great rider in a good vehicle (or ON in this case) will always beat an average rider in a great vehicle.  That's why when Motorcyclist did a match up between a Suzy Gixxer 1000 and a 'vette, they used ONE rider/driver (Kevin Schwanz) for both, to eliminate the variable.
(PS the Gix spanked the vette)

Think what would have happened if he challenged a fast bike?  :o

yeah,  the gixxer did 0 to 100 to 0 again before the 'vette even got from 0 to 100.

pretty impressive.

Yeah...  Glad you took that Jag.  I'm all about some drag racing here and there.  I raced a BMW 540i about 2 weeks ago and of course took the title...

I read that article!  I loved it! :thumb:

Oh and about racing cars on motorcycles.   I read a post on //gixxer.com about a guy in Atlanta running his GIX1000 against a Lamb. Diablo.  Now bet you that's a damn rush.

The guys said he pulled on the Diablo by a few car lenghs until they about 140mph then it was all diablo.

Considering the price differential, pretty good bang for the buck.

I read that article and the bike/car comparison that they did last time with the latest Corvette and the then new R-1, the bikes are so far beating cars consitently.

Piper,

Let us know when you're going to the strip, I would like to attend! Or, be support crew, give ya a few pointers from Gleason himself (the Kawi drag bike champion).

Sounds to me like nobody knows anybody with a fast car....  If anyone wants to meet at Sac raceway I've got a buddy with an 89' 5.0 that you could run against.

140 in the quarter and he goes LOOKING for liter bikes....

Another couple of months and you can have a go at my Pinto

Piper,

Are you talking about "Pee Wee Gleason"?  He did the test on the Vmax when it first came out right?  That guy's about as badass with bikes as they come...  I used to steal magazines from the 7-eleven if they had PeeWee as a test rider.  Gleason ROCKS.

Sorry, looks like I should have quoted Scratch.  Scratch, do you have an in with Gleason?
