Hello folks.
Ive got a 2007 gs500f with the stock exhaust. Im thinking about swapping out the air filter to the k&n lunchbox. According to the wiki, i should go with 20/62.5/142.5, 2 washers, 3 turns.
I see people on the forum suggesting 22.5/65/137.5 no washers and 3 turns, which i guess is what im going to try.
Im not interested in spending 300+ dollars of my low wages on a can. Im going to keep the stock pipe. While i have found a few posts where people say to not bother, the general consensus feels this upgrade will produce a smooth throttle and better sound.
Is there anything i should know about these california specific models before i dive in and start ordering parts?
That they are Jetted Real Lean , But if ur rejetting then there shouldnt be any , Theres also a bunch of Emmissions stuff on there, that u can Remove
I know there is a few emissions mods for the california model. I dont know if i have to remove them or if its something that will still function after the rejet.
You will not have to remove them, they will continue to function normally after the rejet.
You can use a slip on from almost any bike.I got one free off ebay.Yes free off ebay.Happen to be a guy in my area selling it.Since I was the only one bidding and it sold for nothing,he just met me and gave it to me.He wouldn't let me pay him or even buy him a soda.I would do a slip on with the lunch box and rejet/tune once and be done with it.None of this is going to add much power if any.It just makes the power more usable and smoother.
Guess ill start pulling links from the wiki tonight and buy parts. My debate was getting the lunchbox and rejetting, or getting the k&n drop-in filter. Seems either way its going to cost about the same. I dont mind putting in the hours to do the work. Though i am a bit intimidated by rejetting, i bought this machine with the intentions of working on it.

I started with the thoughts of a K&N dropin. Then I thought about jetting.I'd rather jet once and be done.Spend the money once and do the work once, then it's all maintainence. So,I did the K&N lunch box, free flowing exhaust, and rejet. This was just my game plan.It turned into a bike make over.
