allright, so i finally bought my first bottle of it today. haven't opened it yet. it's in the cabinet. those of you who drink it, any suggestions? rocks or no? chilled or straight from the cabinet? :dunno_white: i realize certain beverages have to be served a certain way to really appreciate them. :thumb: oh, and i think i may have gotten shafted on the price. i paid $39.10 for a 750ml bottle. good price or no? replies needed! :icon_mrgreen:

but i don't buy shaZam! i can't pronounce or know how to serve because i'm a non-refined alchohol consumer that thinks talking about the Leaaaaaaaaaaather, Oaaaaaaaak, or spiiiiiiiice in a wine is silly and i don't know how to write a decent poem.

However you like it! I think the scots traditionalists would go for mixed 50/50 with plain old H2O around or just under room temperature - don't add the water straight from the tap to the whisky glass, use a jug or whatever. Try it neat and on the rocks, there are no rules avout how to enjoy it but whatever way you choose swill it around on the palate to get the full benefit, a little like mouthwash but a tad less vigorous.
I take mine with water but that's just me.

i think i shall try it on the rocks at first. that's how i've had most of my drinks in the past. but this is my first bottle of scotch. :icon_mrgreen:

It distinctly has a very smoky taste prolly cos it is aged in oak barrels. Or maybe I am confusing with glenfiddich ... both are pretty much the classic scotch variety.

If you want to know about whisky, ask a Scotsman... so I'm yer man. 8) Er, actually, I rarely touch the stuff... I saw too many drunks when I was growing up and always associated them with whisky. :cookoo:
Anyway, my brother is a bit of a connoisseur - even though he lives in France. His opinion (which I can't find fault with) is that the taste of a Whisky is defined by the water it is made from. Glenlivet is made from water drawn from 'Josie's Well'. If you add water to a whisky, or take it on the rocks, you are basically 'contaminating' the purity of the whisky you're drinking.
So, to enjoy a Scotch at its best, take it neat. That way, you can enjoy a taste of Scotland wherever you have the pleasure of drinking it. :thumb:

well, i just finished my first glass. i started out neat. hmm...first taste...it does have a nice earthy taste to it...but tasted a bit warm for my liking so i added a couple of rocks. 2nd taste...temp is better...but initially as a bit more bite than i'd like...after-taste is smoother than expected. much better after-taste than my last drink(makers mark). all around not too bad. but for $40 buck a bottle i think i'd like something with a bit smoother initial bite and possibly smoother after-taste.
Tried the Chartreuse???!!! 50% proof... :2guns: Totally blasts the cobwebs away! :2guns:
