The tach on my bike is loose, and I can hear it vibrate and see ot shaking around when I ride. The nuts on the back are tight. The rubber around the tach itself is damaged. Is this why it's loose? Where can I find its replacement? Thanks!
Mine is the same way. I know you can find the gauge gaskets at Bikebandit.com under OEM parts but not sure of the price. Personally, I've just been ignoring it. Hope this helps.

Both my gauges rattle around quite a bit. I guess there is a gasket or something that makes them not do that, but I just ignore it and everything seems to be fine...
Find a local hydraulic shop,heavy equipment,or nut and bolt shop.Take your gauge in and get thick diameter O-rings that fit tight on the gauge and under the lip where the gauge meets the original gasket.I haven't done this but I've seen it done.Square ones will work better,but they are hard to find.
The little rubber isolation mounts may be all worn out. However, some play is normal. Rattling around and making noise is NOT normal.
The O-ring idea sounds interesting too.
While you have the tach out, you might as well replace both the speedo and tach bulbs. Never fails that one will blow as soon as you put it back together. I suggest red bulbs, they're much easier on your night vision. :thumb:

I agree.I recently had my gauges off for some mainainence and I managed to blow my speedo bulb.I was very careful with the gauges,but blew one anyway.
I had the same problem on my 03 GS. I found the issue was the rubber bushes around the mounting bolts had compressed right down and the bolts were bottoming out on the internal bush. My solution was some washers with the right internal diameter to clear the bush but sit on the rubber. It worked well.
I thought that was the problem. Theyre about $7.50 on bikebandit for the bushings. As for the bulbs, if you get the natural oils from your fingers on bulbs they will burn out. I'm not worried about the gauges being easy on my eyes. The brighter the bett for me. I've had about ten total eye surgeries for internal bleeding in them so my night vision isnt exactly perfect.
