My GS500 and My 650 V-Strom have never seen the rain, I have other bikes for that :nono:
Have had'em for 4months front and back axle...Look cool and help in a pinch. :thumb:
Hitch Pins are great, I used a pair to mount the rear of a Ducati Monster Seat to my Subframe, nothing like tooless and keyless removal of the seat. I still have to clean the welds up a bit, paint and such but I like the idea of using the pins.

ben2go,
I thought this was an internet discussion forum...you know people sharing knowledge, learning from one another. But in reading your post it's obvious you you have nothing to add to the thread but
"I thought you had come up with something new" <WTF?
No,
none of it's new, the GS500 is considered a beginners bike, so seeing that I have been riding motorcycles since 1968 I thought I might share a little knowledge about a simple hitch pin replacement for a cotter key that I have been doing for decades. Come to find out if your profile is true? You where not even born until I was 18. By the time you learned to wipe your ass...I had my own children.

Suzuki Steve, Ben2go is a unique character and often times his warped sense of humor is taken the wrong way.
Don't let his quirks ruin the experiences you have here on this wonderful site. Jab back at him, ignore him, post up a thousand different uses for Hitch Pins anything besides walking away...Wait a second I just re read this and it sounds like a cheap romance novel on second thought damn you and your ghey cotter pins.

shear strength comparable to the standard cotter pin?

Stevo, don't worry about Ben2go. This forum has a pretty warped sense of humor, which sometimes comes across as an attack. I don't think he meant anything by it.
I don't think anybody has ever posted the hitch pin thing. However, it's very handy and I'm sure some new GS'ers have learned a new trick. :thumb:
Hi Stevo,
I hope you really don't leave the forum.
I know what you are saying.
I'm 49, with two kids, and it is a pain in the ass sometimes dealing with some of the "children" here on this board. Some are just silly, some just sarcastic, some just mean. If you are new here, you may not get a feel for who is who yet. But most of the people here are helpful, pleasant, funny, and just like you and I, whatever their ages --they love their motorcycles and motorcycling and having a community in which to share those deep loves. That's why we are all here.
On the other hand, there are some who are so stupid that they make stupid look smart. They know who they are, but I can name names if they need that. :)
But when I cross paths with any of the few idiots, I take a deep breath, put them in their places (usually they don't get it anyway, but hey, remember --they are stupid!) and pay no more attention to them. Sometimes you can even have a bad exchange and then resolve it like adults, it has happened!
Ben2go's not a bad guy. He is sarcastic, but he is a good guy, Maybe he just caught you at a bad moment and you weren't ready for his particular brand of sarcasm. Give him another chance. I'm sure you both can be friends here.
I just went through a similar experience with Sikdmax. Here's a link to the problem:

He and I are cool now. Sometimes this Internet thing is a pain because you have no context with which to "read" someone else's remarks. You can't see if they are smiling or seething when they write a comment. I think that's why we have some misunderstandings here. We're not able to talk it out in real time, so we post and miss the continuity of the conversation. That's why I think we sometimes need to relax a bit more here on the board. :)
Like you I have years of riding and wrenching experience, having bought my first bike and continuously owned one since April 1975. I even worked in some motorcycle shops back in high school and college.
Anyway, I certainly know about hitch pins and have had them in my motorcycle axles since 1975, but it was good of you to remind some of the rookies.
Don't let the bastards get you down, and remember, there are far more cool people on this board than idiots. It's just that the idiots cab sometimes be the most vocal ones. :)
Where are you located?
Take care and I hope we can talk sometime.
Yours,
Todd
LOL Todd chill - you missed the whole point of that thing anyway. Notice the :flipoff: has a nice smiley face? If I wanted to get mad at you, I would of posted this one: (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/images/smilies/flipoff.gif)
To OP thanks for the idea - I hadnt thought of it.
Sorry for the knee jerk reaction...I feel much better today
Oy!
See what I mean? Sikdmax -- I AM chilled, bub.
I am saying that you and I are fine after our little disagreement and that all is well.
I was pointing that out to Stevo.
Life is good, bub. :)
Yours,
Todd
P.S. And smiley face or not, if someone gives someone else the finger (or two of them) I'm not thinking that's funny. :) I think that is nasty. But that's just moi.
