Title: My LED Taillight on my GS500E
Post by: SIKDMAX on June 21, 2008, 06:36:29 PM
Well - I like LEDs

Since they dont make an integrated LED for the Es like the do for the Fs, or anything else I really liked, I just decided to make my own.

2 57 LED 1157 White bulbs..... not just on the end like most but the entire circumference of the bulb - this way the light actually hits the reflector.

Simple swap in swap out and ......

LEDs are a drop in solution - as you have demonstrated - for the tail lights.

It also is OK for the instrument (clocks) lights, the Neutral lamp, the High Beam lamp, and (god forbid it is needed) the Oil lamp.

I like LEDs also. I have hundreds in assorted colors and applications and output spectrums. Nice new thread and source link.   :thumb:

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Yes, instrument panel bulbs are next - I hate the dim yellow light halogen bulbs give off!  :nono:

Hey nice leds! Did you do before and after pictures with the stock bulb? Day and night pictures? I really think the bulbs are a much brighter solution in the day.. I have tested MANY leds and most have not exceeded the brightness of a bulb in the day time.. You should check it out if you can. Your making me wish my project would speed itself up! ;)

Nice, i've been looking for some led bulbs to replace the ones I have now. Some off the bulbs flicker out on mine. I'm gonna get the red ones because my light is clear. cool

I tried this once with some LEDs I purchased at AutoZone.  They were like 16$ a piece.  I didn't take any day shots and the LEDs I bought didn't have that many LEDs per bulb. But this was my night time results

2 Regular bulbs running:

2 regular bulbs brakes applied:

Left regular bulb/Right LED running:

Left regular bulb/Right LED brakes applied:

In the end I determined that the regular bulbs were brighter.  However in looking at these monster LEDs by the OP.  I may have to rethink the idea.  I still want to convert all my bulbs to LEDs but haven't yet.

Notice how your bulbs provide a dot - because the LEDs are facing outwards only (toward the back).  The LEDs on the side actually allow the reflector to work as it is intended, and the LED lighting is reflected backwards  :thumb:

I too am not found of the yellow light of incandescent bulbs but, to my knowledge, there are no halogen bulbs that are stock for the GS gauges, panel, blinkers, and tail lights. They are just common filament lamps. No precautions regarding oily hands is required.

On the other hand (ha ha, a pun), the headlight is usually a halogen type and the precautions apply there.

It will be a little while longer before halogen headlights are totally replaced by LEDs. It will be great to have much light and less power consumption.
