Title: Will the Dealer fix this????????
Post by: kdilly on June 21, 2008, 09:24:38 PM
Bought a 2008 GS500F about 3 weeks ago! I notice that the engine runs funny when the bike is leaned to one side. I heard this is a problem that the big S knows about and the dealer will fix. Is that true?

which side? Does it do it when you are riding? Explain "runs funny" because I have never heard of this problem.

Could be excess Camshaft float, the shaft moves to one side in its bearings under gravity and starts to make a rattling noise......... early GS5s where notorious for it and repaired by dealers under warranty by fitting a 1 mm thick (I think) shim  to each cam to limit movement. I have had 2 that do it. Suzuki then introduced a mod at the factory during manufacture to prevent it happening........... Unusual to hear of a late one suffering from it though.

I would get it back to your dealer and express your concerns, diagnosing faults just by the description of the noise it makes is very difficult and it could be something far more serious then camshaft float, until the lid is off and a proper inspection made its all speculation.

Dude, what are you wasting time for here, its got a warranty, take it back and ask to have it inspected, if they say all is good, have them put it in writing and rest easy. If not they will fix it and again, rest easy. Asking for a diagnosis on the internet is not wise, for a new bike that carries a warranty!
