Title: better carbs
Post by: mach1 on June 21, 2008, 11:04:33 PM
So like the title says Im looking for better carbs for the GS preferably with no Slides only the butterfly maybe so flatsides. I want better throttle response and something without slides.

I guess you mean with no butterfly.

With flatside you control the slide's height.

Sounds like an interesting mod  :thumb: , hope I could help.

Keihin CR Specials and Mikuni RS Smoothbores are some of the best you can buy. They have better throttle response but also require more controlled throttle input from the rider, much different than CV carbs. Probably a waste of money on a stock motor.

Not cheap. New are over $500. Used sell for for $300 and up.

I sold one set of CR specials for $275. I lucked out and scored another set for $100.

i know that on the old GS400, Mikuni round slides were the way to go for performance. A lot of dirt bikes run carbs like that, and those things scream

There are some people that run 1 40 or 42 smoothbore on a virago with a Y manifold. 2 cyls, 1 42mm carb and a weird shaped manifold to get it fitted. It is if anything easier on a GS. Maybe I'd try that on my GR and see if it craps out or runs good.
Cool.
