Needing a little help taking the fairing off of my gs500f. I took all of the bolts off of all the obvious places but to my suprise it would not slide off. Im not the most mechanical person in the world but this seemed very simple. I wanted to take it off to make it easier to change my oil and replace oil filter.
help please,
Todd
Hey dude,I've got an E model but try this post.http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=36197.0 It talks about a couple of clips at the bottom of the fairing.
Just punch in Removing Fairings or some such combo in the seach option above.Happy Hunting
I got those off but it didn't want to come off at the top part of the fairing. I don't want to crack anything.
there is another little push pin kinda thing in the top of the fairing near the middle if i remember correctly. once you get that off it sort of slides out sideways. there are little tabs on each one that hook together. just wiggle it a little and it should pop off.
Have you checked to see if this conversion to an E will void your warranty?Just asking.Hate for you to loose your warranty over something that could be put off a year or 2.
As someone mentioned earlier already there is a small push in clip at the top corner of the fairing on the inside as well that you need to undo before it'll slide off. I missed that one too when I took it off first time

What he said.. They are small black pins and all you do is push in the center of them and they will pop out. Good luck man.
Thanks for the advice. Worked like a charm! Made changing my oil alot easier.
are you going to do F to E conversion, or you will rather keep the fairings?? I keep my fairings on the bike and love them , but sometimes I wish they weren't there (maintenance)
cheers
Sounds like he wanted access to change the oil lol
yes I wanted access to change the oil. It made it alot easier and cleaner. it was worth the extra 5 minutes to do it. I dont understand why they have plastic push pins though. They look a little messed up and I need to go pick some more up.

im missing on- have no clue where it went.. woops  but doesnt look like its really necessary to have those
^^^^^
the larger ones on the bottom part of the fairing are more important. they keep the left and right plastics together.
at some point you would really like to get rid of the fairing. It serves little purpose in my opinion. you need get that off even to replace a god damn spark plug

Yup!! that's exactly what I meant in my statement above. We either have to live with that or do F to E conversion which I don't want...
