Ok admit it some of ya'll own cages with wheels
i'm just wondering:
what gas milage do u get
how do u try to save on gas
and what vechile ur car is
89 toyota pickup extra cab 2WD, with the infamous 22r 168,000 miles 24-26 mpg
97 honda accord wagon ex, with the infamous vtec 4 banger 224,000 miles 24-32 mpg
99 toyota camry xle, with the infamous (whatever it is!) four banger 112,000 miles 26-35 mpg
98 gs500 with incredible powa ;) 24,500 miles 45-65 mpg
i change my own oil, fluids, and do minor wrenching, timing chains/belts/hoses etc. but complain about it.
i keep the gas milage and engine in tune as I can as a shade tree. regular oil changes mean more to me than worrying about 30 mpg vs 35 mpg since a new car or engine costs a hella lot more than loosing a few mpg's.
driving the speed limit, very few rapid starts if any, and generally keeping the rpm's low. (i'm talking about the cars/truck) the gs gets pinned daily :)
being a cheapskate ain't easy. you gotta wurk at it !
******************
on a side note, that old honda wagon is the best car i've ever owned. the toyotas we've had are fine, easy to work on, efficient, comfy, but that wagon has given us over 100,000 miles of GREAT un interrupted service now, with very very little need for repairs. just simple maintenance. love it !
cars suck ! :)
No cage myself, but the other half drive a focus 1600 Auto.
No idea on mileage as I dont fill it up, but its pretty good. She claims she never goes over the 70mph speed limit to save fuel.
Me, just the bikes, 100ish mpg for me 125 scooter, 65 ish mpg for the GS500 and 40ish mpg for the GSF1200.
As for saving fuel, I try not to slow down so I dont have to accelerate again.
Do all the spanners myself, that save a bit of cash.
my friend sent me a site and there were like 11 fuel saving techniques
1) drive speed limit or a 5 mph slower
2) ridge riding
3) Over pumping the tires to reduce rolling friction
4) Turn of AC and don't roll down window was AC uses gas the windows rolled down also produce a greater wind resistance
5) coast to a stop
can't remember the rest lol
but got to head to class peace!
1998 Nissan Frontier, 2.4l i4 4x4 -- somewhere around 16-18 everywhere unless cruising and i might see 21, ~119000miles.
2006 Dodge Stratus, 2.5l i4 -- 22-26 around town, 35-40 highway BUT working on third engine, ~47000 miles
2004 GSXR 750 - 35-38 around town, no highway cruising yet. ~20000 miles

08 chevy silverado 2500HD duramax diesel - custom tuned by me gets 20+ mpg
00 Chevy Tahoe 15" Lift on 40"tires/22" wheels.... milage?
And the old school fun car.... 1972 Ferrari Dino 246GTS... no idea what milage.... dont really care! Haha
With price of diesel lately, my daily driver has been an 02 Ford Exploder
SIKDMAX you should use biodiesel on ur diesel truck man... lol
u should be getting .70 a gallon if u use bio diesel
um ya....... no.
Bio is about $2.50 a gallon if you make it yourself - about 4.50 if you buy it at a pump.
And no thanks but I dont like my new $50k truck smelling like McDonalds french fries
Besides - my truck isnt my daily driver and I use it mostly for racing - I usually run synthetic racing diesel I purchase by the 55 gallon drum - I got no room to Buddha Loves You since that stuff is almost $8 a gallon!

Myth Busters proved that one wrong... Windows up AC ON saves mileage :thumb:

89 Toyota Pickup 4X4 (mine) the good (22RE) motor 109K
98 Hyundai Acent (the wifes) 98K
98 Hyundai Elantra (mine) 64K
95 GS500E 5K
90 GS500E 48K

I've been thinking about putting a veggie burn kit in the ol 240D. There's a guy on the island that picks up all the WVO from the resteraunts, filters it and sells it for $1.50/gallon :cookoo: He's an old diesel genius, he's got an old 300D that he rebuilt......makes 350lbs/ft and gets 60mpg hwy :cookoo: :cookoo: Sounds like hell is freezing over when it's running, too.
lmao lol yeah i heard bio diesel fuel burns hotter and it keep ur engine healthier
my family owns a chinese restruaunt and i've been looking into how to turn the cooking oil into fuel
maybe pickup a little ole diesel pickup truck to haul my GS500 on long trips ya know? lol
oh i forgot to mention my vehicles
here they are
2005 Scion xB with about 40k on it getting around 28-29 mpg (SUCKS)
1997 GS500 with about 18k on it when running gets about 50mpg

I love mythbusters
I have a 2001 Turbo New Beetle that gets 19 city and 23 highway on premium gas. I save gas by driving it as little as possible and driving the GS any time I'm going somewhere alone.
i have not owned a cage since mine "disappeared" in 01 in San Diego
08 Toyota Matrix 31-32mpg
I try not to keep my driving smooth, without sudden starts/stops. Regular service and tires properly inflated.
I also love Myth Busters. Would love to get paid to do that shaZam!.
2000 Frontier, 2.4 liter 4-banger, 132,000 miles. I tend to drive like an old man anyway. I've slowed down my highway driving to keep under 65MPH since gas hit $4, and that has saved me a little bit. Driving with the old farts in the slow lane lets me see the scenery, and I stay more relaxed, and that's a good thing. I recommend trying it. :thumb: I can even follow some of the old farts to the best Early Bird Specials in Florida and save a few bucks on dinner.
Currently averaging 24 mpg with mixed driving, mostly highway. Straight highway gets about 29mpg. My AC is ALWAYS on. I keep the tires properly inflated, blah blah blah.
My 650 V-Strom gets a pretty consistent 58 mpg and I wish I could drive it more often than the truck!
Cages.
2007 Ford F150 13.5mpg or 15mpg city 17mpg or 19.8mpg Highway
2007 Ford Focus 23mpg or 27mpg city 31mpg or 34mpg Highway
The lower numbers are for 10% ethanol (E10)
The better mileage was from non ethanol gas.
I have not had the oppurtunity to comprehensivily test E85 since the closest station to me is 20 miles from my house and I can't justify driving all the way there and back to buy fuel.
heh bio diesel has hidden costs, which is/will be for another thread. anyhoo my cages
1996 oldsmobile ciera sl ( 2.2 4cyl wont pull a greasy string out of a cats ass) but averages 31-32 mpg city. which is approaching its hwy rating 97k miles on it. and i drive like an old fart too
1965 chevrolet c10 stepside 3spd column, 305 2bbl. in process of getting it on the road. however last time it was on road, it averaged14-18 mpg ( miles 77,582 original, wiht teh 283, noqw with teh 305 aorund 35k
1997 gs500 around 40-ish mpg
'01 Ranger Edge 3.0 Auto - 13 city 24 hwy It can do better in the city when I keep my foot out of it.
'04 GS500F - No clue what it gets. The speedo is so far off I can't even guess at the mileage.
Ha, sounds like me ^ I've got a mazda b2500 1998 with a 2.5L 4 banger and it gets regularly 15-16 in town, and about 25 on highway. I just found that granny shifting it and putting 5psi more than needed of nitrogen in the tires gets an extra 3mpg in town though. Wife's got a 2001 accord automatic 2.3L 4 banger and it gets a whopping........
wait for it...........
Wait for it...........
19mpg in town.
God I love hondas but this one really blows the big one!!
2000 Audi A4 Quattro 2.8 liter v6 n/a 150,000 miles 18-20 city 22-25 hwy
1999 Volvo S70 2.5 liter 5 cylinder n/a 240,000 miles 22-25 city 28-32 hwy
1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2l v8 n/a 280,000 miles 12-14 city 17-20 hwy
I do all wrenching on all of my vehicles. Never take anything to a shop.
I'm afraid my cage is out of range in this list. :dunno_white:
Stock Suzuki GS 500, '01, 34000 kms, 19-20 km/lt (54-56 mpg) all round, even saw 25-26 km/lt (70-73 mpg)
My car luckily does 18-19 km/lt (51-54 mpg), even if it can (yes, it can :icon_mrgreen:) seat comfortably 4 adults and some luggage. :thumb:
And yes, I ride/drive like a retired senior.
