Title: Stupid SOB Parts Counter Failures and Bad Karma
Post by: Fry on June 27, 2008, 05:10:43 PM
I have a 2001 Single Cab, 2.4, 4x4 Toyota Tacoma. It needed an Inspection Sticker in Jan., I played Rebel and refused to get one.

So today while dropping of the GF's Kid's KX100 so he could go rip it up with his friends the Tail Pipe fell off. I lost the stock Cat Back along time ago, and got by for quite some time with a Universal Flowmaster and some cobbled together bends and straight sections so I wasn't to pissed.

When I got to my Garage my Dad laughed at the sound of the little Taco and said thats gonna draw attention to you and your past due sticker. I said Nah, it's a plain Jane Taco almost invisible to Johnny Law, I don't drive fast and it isn't all that loud.

Sure than S*** on my way to search for a OE Replacement Cat Back I get popped for a past due inspection sticker, $50.00 fine, said he would have let me slide but it was just to far past due, I was polite and cannot really get pee'd off at this because it's my fault, Instant Karma Strikes.

Well I go back home call a few NAPA Auto Stores and Find a local shop that can have my Cat Back OE replacement by 4pm, so I risk driving the truck to go pre pay for the exhaust telling him all the specifics stressing it's a Single Cab. While there I pick up an Air and Oil Filter, 5 Qts of Synthetic Oil and a set of Spark Plugs figuring I might as well get that done in anticipation of going to get a sticker tomorrow once the exhaust was on. So I do the Air, Oil and Plug change, call NAPA to see if the exhaust was in, it was so I go get it. I should have known something was wrong when it didn't fit into the bed of my truck.

Anyway I get home, cut off the cobbled together system, having to use the Heat Wrench and Cut Off Wheel to remove the studs on the exhaust flanges and the 2nd O2 Sensor. I then start to hang the one piece Exhaust Cat Back System, BAMM it's about 2-2 1/2 feet to long Instant KARMA strikes again!!!!

It has to be for either a extended or double cab, not the Single Cab that I have and stressed to the guy at the counter.

So now with NAPA being closed I'm stuck with an inoperable truck, no way to return the incorrect piece and get the correct item, I wonder what the chances are they'll deliver it tomorrow due to it being their fault?

KARMA SUCKS

Thank God I live in a state with no vehicle inspections.

Never will be either, 90% of the farm trucks here wouldn't pass.

Been there, beat the crap outta that parts counter dude.  They really are as clueless as they look.

Since when does using a Torch to bend the Tail Pipe Section, Sectioning out 18 1/2" from the Cat to Mid Pipe area, elongating the flange bolt holes on both the cat and the Mid Pipe as well as moving the secondary O2 Bung 9" Equal OEM Fit, SOB.....I could have made my own exhaust quicker and a hell of a lot cheaper, wait for all intensive purposes that what I'm doing now, WTF I am So So Pissed.

The NAPA guy couldn't figure out the problem, every catalog and CPU program he checked indicated I got the right part. He stated I could return the part for a 2 piece Walker Unit, but that part cross referenced to the part number I have...What I think happened is that I got a Extended Cab or Dual Cab Exhaust which was improperly labeled with the Single Cab Bar Code.

I think once I'm finished I'm going to drive to NAPA with the 8" Bended Section and the 10" of Straight Section that I had to remove to see if the F'ers will give me a discount seeing how I didn't need them for the OEM fit.

Dammit I am so angry right now.....I should have just paid the 310.00 for a Factory Toyota piece rather than the 170.00 for this erector set of an exhaust system, sometimes you get what you pay for.

heh  Don't worry, you'll get to replace it again in about a year.  :)

I got so tired of replacing A-zone exhausts under warranty on my Dakota that I said F-it and chopped everything off to the downpipe.  Catalytic subverter?  Wazzat?

I put a little muffler on there and ran it out under the pax door hinge.  At least I can change it in about 10 minutes.
