Hello all, I havent been here in about 3 or 4 years(sold the gs). But now i bought it back.
Its all painted and pretty but wont idle at the right speed, it wants to die under 2000 rpms. All the carb stuff is stock and cant seem to get the air mixture screw and the pilot screw settings right, i guess? can anyone help?
The last inspection sticker on my GS was for '04, so you may be in the same boat as I was. Have you torn down the carbs yet? If not get a Clymer manual and a clean spot to work and have at it. I ended up having to open the carbs up three times to get them clean enough to where the bike would pull up through the rev range at all smoothly. The needle jet and the float levels were the worst offenders...ok the pilot jets as well. Beyond that I did an oil change, brake bleed, and put in new plugs, flushed the tank and fuel lines and put in an in line lawnmower filter. The bike runs pretty well now though not perfect, but I am happy to be on the road for a small investment.
Commuter dude is right ... besides he's my customer ... and you know what they say right, the customer is always right ...
Anyway, Yes clean it, rejet it or let the buddha do both of it in the most unprofessional manner possible (you'd get like 20 pics on the process) ...
Clean and rejet $45, O rings $10, Jet pack $22, crazy ideas ... priceless ...

Thanks to all of your helpful advice and reading many informative posts ..... Hey! what do ya know, shes running again! The pilot screws are out about 2 1/4 turns each and the fuel/air about three. I doubt that it will stay that way. I need to strip an old liner that is filling the fuel lines and carbs. I have read about por15 and wonder if the is the best procedure (its a 4 product kit). Also, on one of the smaller jets, the screwdriver slot has been stripped and I can't remove it, any thoughts?

Lopee - only the air screws are set so many turns out 2 1/4 is OK - stock is 2 1/4, but we set to 3 and fiddle from there. The pilot air whatever is not to be left 3 turns open, its to be in all the way ... in fact you're not supposed to even touch it at all.
POR 15 - I do that all the time for people. $60 for a GS tank. Yes its really very good, but best ... subjective. I like kreem too, but you even powdercoat it and kreem is out.
Commuter - I dont watch american sports. No clue what Tarheels are ... OK OK exaggerating.
