I sent advancers to HOWEMAN and GS5OH and haven't got their rotors back. I emailed GS5OH but can't find HOWEMAN in the memberlist (or I missed it).
It's important to replace the advancers and send them back right away.
There are other people waiting on the list and I only had 3 rotors to rotate between them.
Right now I don't have any!
Bob,
I would really like to get on your list for an advancer. Is it my understanding that you send out the advancer and then we send you our rotor when it gets here? If tthat's the case then I'd really like to be on your list. I thought I had to send you my rotor in advance and I use my bike as my daily commuter. I can second day air my rotor out to you when the new gets here if that's the case.
Jake
you can pm me as well
thanks in advance (no pun intended).
I would also like to get on your list if i'm not already.
I sent you a message but don't know if you got it.
thanks

Come on guys - Don't blow a great thing.
Members,
I can't stress enough the fact that Bob B. is a GREAT contributor to our GS board. Furthermore, his work on the ADVANCER, to my believe, is purely for the love of motorcycle in his heart. Although he can charge us for his work, but he chose NOT to. So, please return your stock IA to Bob so that our members can contibnue to have it as V&H is no longer make this item quite some time ago.
Perhaps some members with some extra cash lying around could find a couple stock advancers for Bob? I can understand how people may need a couple days to find the time to swap them out, but this whole deal (and a generous deal it is!) requires the advancers to move along as soon as possible. One of the alternatives... the better of the bad ones, deprives you of your bike while the advancer travels through the mail! :(
I'm looking to get mine swapped out in the near future... don't make me raid the wrecker for an extra one! :)
Finding extra rotors at the wreckers would be a big plus.
The more the better.
Email me for the mailing address if you find any.
Ack, I shouldn't have mentioned looking for another advancer! hehe :)
But, since I will be visiting the wreckers soon for some other bits, what sort of price range should one be expecting for the rotors? I don't know these things...
The more the better is right... GS parts become rarer through attrition, and if the parts aren't bought after a while, they might disappear to the big parts bin in the sky!
I think gs5oh sold his...

Cool.
Srinath.
howeman is on the list..
sorry I cant do much here.. I am stuck using the campus public systems. I am limited in my time. My laptop took a dump and i cant use the internet at home or at school.. (hardware issue).
You can click on member list then sort by user name, its there in page 10 or so..
Please email them.. the guy has only 3 posts here. The other guy should send you the peice before selling his bike.
Sorry for the mystery. I am sending the stock IA in the mail tomorrow. The delay was caused by myself breaking the bolt that holds the IA in (amatuer) and I wanted to get everything fixed and tested before I sent away the stock piece. (I posted about this very problem).
That said, everything is working great. I love the new IA and am so grateful that you (Bob) are so willing to do this. My apologies for being late with the return (and unable to be reached).
Thanks so much.
HoweMan
Alright!
Looks like we'll be back in business soon :thumb:

Hmm, how about those people that are parting out a bike send their ignition rotors to Bob for free. I'd consider that a mighty fine 'donation' to the gstwin community at large. Good Kharma too.
Bob, are you just cutting and rewelding trigger tab? or do you do alittle machining? dont know if you remember i was thinking about an adjustable Advancer. Care to add any imput? Basicly, score centerline on stock trigger tab. grind tab off and grind down the diameter of tab plate alittle, drill and tap 2 small holes 90 degrees on each side of stock trigger tab Score mark, the holes must be 180 degrees from each other for ballencing reasons. now a disk and tab made to the original diameter of old tab plate, center hole drilled for bolt holding rotor on, and slots cut so 2 retaining bolts lock down the disk, the disktab can now be lined up with stock score mark for stock timing, or advanced to suit be it 3 5 7 12 degrees BTDC. then again, a centrifical advancer would be nice too? mybe moding the old GS450 pickups and rotor.
There are 2 styles of rotors for the GS500.
The CA rotor is set to 5 degrees btdc and the tab is wider for 35 degrees dwell.
The other model is set at 12 degrees with a tab width for 28 degrees dwell.
The V&H is set at 17 degrees with a 28 degree dwell.
I fill the stock crank pin groove on the bottom of the rotor and drill a 3mm hole to relocate the pin and advance the timing. The weld needs to be milled flush to fit cleanly o the crank. The new pin hole is located halfway into the stock groove, so you have to weld it up. The pin location is critical. A small misalignment equals several degrees.
On the CA rotor I mill the tab down to the width of the V&H rotor.
I mill on the side where the tdc mark is. So the tdc mark is advanced too. I take a hacksaw and make a cut where the new tdc should be.
The timing advance is controlled by the black igniter box to a total of 40 degees btdc. The rotor timing only effects the lowend from idle to 3000 rpms.
I don't see any benefit from an adjustable advancer.
It is important to note that you can't put an advancer in an envelope. You should pack it into a little box and send it to Bob to help ensure it arrives.
Bob, you should consider a send first swap deal, especially since winter is coming and many bikes will be down for the winter.
Anybody can send me their rotor to be modified, instead of waiting for one to be sent first.
They just have to be willing to put the bike out of commission for about a week.
I've already done a few this way.
Winter would be the time to do it.
Except here in California where we ride all year :)

Heck yeah! :thumb:
Well, funny thing happened while helping my mom bring her new car to the body shop (got rear-ended 1 week after buying the thing!) :o
Seems the auto body place the car went to expanded by buying out the motorcycle salvage yard! :o And my mom knew about the sale... Which means my plans of grabbing some used parts has gone straight to the toilet :x I don't think I would have minded stopping by the yard every so often. I might go to Connecticut one of these days to see what they have, but...
So Bob, can you put me on the list for an advancer? If winter comes along before you get to me, I'll be happy to send mine first.
