Title: Bigger rear sprocket

id like to learn how to stunt and i know the gs isnt really a good bike to do it on, its cheap to repair vs. gsxr's, well id like to be able to power wheelie and was lookin at mayb a 44 or 45 tooth sprocket... should this do the trick?! how much will my top end be affected?! also can i help compinsate for this and put in a 17t front sprocket?!thanks! :thumb:

You may want to consider a 49 tooth

hmmm so how bad will the top end be.... id like something to be somewhat level like able to wheelie fairly easy and still be fast!

You will loose top end speed and rideability on the interstate maybe next to impossible.Look at near red line at highway speeds.

i have a 52 tooth sprocket on my gs and it might be able to power up a wheelie. never tried, always clutch.  clutching is the way to do it.  i also have a 49 tooth sprocket layin around too.  with the 52 on it it will do about 70mph.....barrrrely.  the gs is the perfect bike to learn to stunt on.  but i just broke mine cause i didn't check the oil right and i just bought an r1, so if you need if you need any tips or parts just let me know

The theoretical top speed at redline of the GS in 6th gear is approx 140 mph, just doesn't have the power to pull it.  A stock GS engine develops max HP at about 8500 rpm so:

140x8500/11000=108 mph which is close to the recorded top test speed of the GS over the years.  Seems they got the gearing about right.   ;)

The engine doesn't care whether you change the speed ratio in the gearbox or at the sprockets so:

140x39/45=121 mph which is close to the theoretical top speed of 124 mph in 5th gear with stock sprockets.

Seems to me you should still have a 121x8500/11000=93 mph approx top speed with 16/45 sprockets. 

If you want to check it out before you buy parts just take it out on the freeway and leave it in 5th gear and see how it feels and what it will do.  I used to run my 97 GS in 5th gear on the highway when playing with big twin friends to match their roll on speeds before I got too old.   :laugh:

Should be turning about 4730x45/39=5460 rpm at 60 mph with 16/45 sprockets.  I have no opinions on how it will wheelie.
