Anyone ever run a laced rim on the GS500? My ultimate GS500 bike would have laced rims, an all aluminum paint scheme save for the tank, which could be any color, and some black accents like grips, seat, grab bar, tires, hubs, some off road style fork boots and moto-X style bars, black headlight bucket. Black engine w/ silver clutch and rotor covers. If I could photoshop I'd do one up for you all. The tires would be sort of old school/dual sport semi-knobbies. might have some knee pucks on the tank, you get the idea. Pipe wrapped with kevlar and run straight back and low.
i think spoked wheels are sexy as hell on newer biikes. I honestly think it could be done with a little work, but it'd be a little spendy. You'd need late 70's early 80's GS400-550 front wheel (unless you wanted to go to dual disc) with a same vintage GS750 up rear wheel, and some rims with the same number of spokes
Good luck w/ cleaning them
lacing wheels is fun ( this is something i know how to do) BUT as said, a bit pricey
Front in a 17 will be hard to find, but rear in a tall profile 16 is easy. BTW 2 bikes that are pretty close for rear wheel though they are both drum brakes ... savage 650 and GR650. Gr wheel is aluminium too. I am actually toying with a similar deal ... may run the savage's cush drive and ergo its belt ... and they will fit in a GR wheel.
Front ... no idea. Needs to be 16 or it will look messed up.
Cool.
Buddha.
