Title: New saddle bags (Oxford sport)
Post by: Chokstick on July 01, 2008, 02:57:57 AM
Hi everyone,

Just purchased a new set of saddle bags by Oxford sport.  I think they fit the GS pretty well, and I'm happy with the look.  They are also expandable, so I should be able to fit loads of stuff.

Looks good and like they ought to work just fine. They don't hang too low as to hit your exhaust, and they don't seem to block your turn signals either.

So did you get these for road trips or everyday?

I bought them for an upcoming road trip.  But I kind of like the look of them (and the handiness).  I'm debating whether or not just to leave them on.   :dunno_white:

that looks great is there a model number or anything else needed like attachment points of some kind.   Noob here.

The reason I ask is since they are not very secure, what degree of utility do they provide other than a long haul package?
Throw groceries in them maybe?
It would be interesting to know if they become everyday useful or would a lockable hard case be more valuable

Looks good... now where did you obtain those from and how much did it set you back?

They are Oxford Sport HumpBackshttp://cgi.ebay.ca/Oxford-Products-Hump-Back-Lifetime-Luggage-BNWT_W0QQitemZ220249059240QQihZ012QQcategoryZ30240QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em122 (http://cgi.ebay.ca/Oxford-Products-Hump-Back-Lifetime-Luggage-BNWT_W0QQitemZ220249059240QQihZ012QQcategoryZ30240QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em122).

They set me back about $200 from a local bike shop.

They attached via three velcro straps (over and under the seat) and then there are a few tie down straps to they don't move around too much.

Birdman:  I have used them grocery shopping, which worked great.  As far as not being able to lock, I've thought of that.  I wasn't prepared to shell out of hard cases, so this is what I've got.  I've been devising a set-up so that I'd be able to lock them (at least the zippers).  Nothing concrete yet, but definitely won't be as secure as hard cases.

Regarding the whole locking things, I rigged up a little something.  Its not completely secure, but its better than nothing.

Just bought some steel cable from Home Depot, attached to the two zippers and then threw a pad lock around the cable and a D-ring.  Should have bought cable with PVC coating.  I'll do that when this one starts rust.

Man, you gotta cut some of that fender off as quick as a dremel allows!
