Post by: umstone on July 01, 2008, 06:00:36 PM
What parts from a 1995 gsxr 750 can fit or be modified to fit a 1991 gs500?

How do you have to modify the front reservior?  I have a reservior from another bike with dual front calipers and the front brake lever has very little play in it before it gets VERY tight.  It's not locking up the front wheel, but it's tight.  I squeeze the lever maybe 1/4" and it's damned tight.

Any clues?  Donor bike was a 1995 RF900.

??? Wow....... And you have direct experience that all these parts fit a GS? I don't see how half that would fit the GS ??? Never heard of the carbs, frame, headlights, rear sets, brake lines, pads, cal, spedo or any other Gixer 750 parts fitting the GS500  8)

Please remember ... you cannot fit the synthetic blinker fluid from a GSXR on any GS except 2001. Yea completely different.
BTW what year GSXR750 on to what year GS. This sounds so much like this old saying ... old, bald man fell into a ditch ...
Cool.

The helix coil from a 88-95GSXR will give the GS 10 more HP,If you can keep the imobilizer from cutting in at 8000rpm.

Scott I dont think you are understanding the humor behind my answer and the blatant generality of the original question. My answer meant "You can make anything fit anything" because he asked "things that can be modified".

Well, since this thread is derailed, you didn't answer my question above, which was how can a gsxr dual caliper front master cylinder be modified to fit a GS500 since I have a 1995 or 1996 RF900 master cylinder on my GS500 and it's not working properly.  I think it's because the RF900 had dual front calipers.

Am I rite that the brake lever is too tight because the front master cylinder I have on there now is for a bike with dual front calipers?

In a word, NO.  A MC that's too big won't completely eliminate braking.  I would guess you either have seized pistons in the caliper or there's an obstruction in the MC.

Seized piston is out.  Already troubleshot that one.

I'm thinking it's an obstruction or a defective used part.  Thankfully I ordered a new GS500 front master cylinder.  Meh...I'll get to ride the bike one day.  ;p

No mods needed to use the GSXR master cylinder. It maybe a little more touch than before.Use the GSXR lever and GS mirror bracket.Hose will bolt right up using your exsisting hardware.
