Title: Anyone shoot in IDPA?
Post by: dgyver on July 03, 2008, 07:44:05 PM
With the opening of a new indoor range and getting back into punching holes in paper targets, I have decided to try shooting in the IDPA. Looks like it can be a lot fun. I will be meeting with an instructor (with an impressive background) in a couple of weeks. Plenty of opportunity for competing since there is an IDPA match at least every weekend at the various ranges in my area.

Anyone else here have any experience with the IDPA?

other than just talking about it with other guys who do, no but it is a really cool and quite expensive habit.  Be ready to drop a hundred bucks or more a day in ammo with ammo prices what they are.

No big deal. It is not any more expensive than my other hobbies. I would spend that much if not more when I played paintball... for over 13 years.

Nothing is ever free.

I'll amend Frankie's statement: Shoot all you want for the low low price of potentially spending up to 18 months in what could quite literally be described as hell on earth and the real possibility of coming back in a crate.  Other than that and the fact that there are multiple restrictions on your lifestyle choices and what amounts to well below poverty level pay, yeah it's a great deal :cookoo:  Now, WTF do I still want to go back???

Thanks for the admendment.

As for the cost of ammo, I can get 9mm reloads for $10.50/box of 50. I have already shot 500+ rounds and no problems. These are made by the same company that has the contract with the US Military to supply their ammo. There better not be any problems.

The only time I ever had a jam with that ammo was with old weapons that were most certainly neglected for quite some time.  In my experience, 99% of malfunctions are not the fault of the ammo but rather improper maintenance.

Yeah D I shot IDPA for a couple of years after I first got my CCW, it's a fun sport. I shot custom defensive pistol with a colt series 80 officers and held a marksman classification.

If your already an avid shooter and do your own reloading it's really not that expensive.

It's a helluva lot more real world oriented than IPSC or Bianchi Cup.
