This sounds like a stupid question but i've only ever ridden my GS once (On the way to an MOT here in the UK) as it's a project bike in need of work.
I had to replace the stock exhaust because it was a rusty pile of rust so i bodged on the exhaust from an R6, i ddi however buy the worng one so it required some serious modification to fit.
Now that it's on it doesnt appear to be blowing but when i take it between 4-6k revs its so loud i soon drop the revs or shift up!
I havnt really ridden anything with any power before other than 125's so i just wanna know whether it should actually be quieter or not?
It's hard to say what you should expect because you have an R1 exhaust on your bike. My bike, with a stock exhaust, is pretty quiet... it gets a little loud if I rev to 9000 rpm, but around 5000 rpm it's nice a smooth.
Stock is quiet. Ive got a full Vance & Hines on my bike and its SUPER SUPER loud.
Was on a group ride the other night with 20 other guys - when we met up I was talkin about my system bein loud and a few guys kinda gave me the "Right........ its a 500" look. We got to our desitnation after the twisties and they were like Holy Sh*t! Your bike is LOUDDDDDDD man! :icon_lol:
ah good, well on my way to my next MOT i'll see about borrowing my bros video camera, even if it means keeping it under the seat or in my bag atleast you'll be able to hear just how loud it is...
I wasnt sure if it was bad or not, although it scares me, i like it :D
I now have to wear ear plugs to start my bike inside my building.I no longer have problems hearing my engine speed at 80mph, on the highway, with ear plugs.
From a 125cc to 500cc , its gonna sound alot meaner and louder!
My bike has the stock exhaust with a bunch of holes drilled in it. It is pretty loud!
MY 89 has a stock exhaust and it's super quiet...stealth quiet below 5k.
Sound energy is measured in Audio Decibals (dB(A)). Your bike exhaust is allowed up to 82 dB(A)but without the gear to measure it and the correct conditions to carry out the test this figure means nothing. Your MOT tester will check the EU markings and he will make a yes/no decision on the noise issue based on his own opinon so if it passes dont worry about it. However, even with a valid MOT, if it upsets the neighbours and they complain you can expect a visit and a warning from the local Enviromental health office and of course MrPlod.

My 04 with a full V&H is louder and beffier than my buddies 02 yama r6 with a yosh full
Mine is pretty loud with the K&N lunchbox air filter and stock exhaust.
Installed the lunchbox yesterday and a Yosh slipon today.
:o
It is MUCH louder.
and quicker! :icon_mrgreen:
i drilled my pipe...
(and jetted)
it's MUCH smoother and MUCH louder.....
to put it simply....
it's so loud if my garage is closed you cant talk to someone standing next to you...
(dont worry i dont run it with the doors shut lolz....)
Lunchbox, rejet, and full vance, with the packing cut in half and only half of the muffler has any packing in it and its not all that loud. Not neighbor hating loud anyway. It has just enough packing to cut the hollow resonance that it had without any packing. Straight piped with nothing in the end of the exhaust, it sounds like a harley 883 with straight pipes. Too loud for any use at all. Literally couldn't hear after revving it up to about 8k in neutral. I never rode it under load with the rear baffle removed.
my 97 wiht the gsxr wedge can installed, is only somewhat louder, and a bit more pronounced ( until i get on it that is)
