Ashy white usually means lean running.

To really answer this question, you will need to post a picture. Otherwise, compare your plugs against this chart:

Well.... look at this http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/plugchop.html (http://www.dfn.com/benkaren/plugchop.html) (It's for 2-stroke engines thought)

He says that you should look to the inside, bottom of the plug. I have read it elsewhere too, but cant find it right now.

Tang - right is great ... left is a bit leanish - look for vacuum cap and other avenues for air getting in, left has more of that than right. Its prolly just a hair lean. You have idle hovering etc type issues ?
This is after idle ... not at speed with near WFO under good load after steady RPM right ... then dont touch mains, its air screws.
Anyway vacuum leaks first. Check that.
Cool.

I was wondering if these were done at idle, or after a wfo run ... during a wfo run, hit the kill swicth and pull over and check ... yes, as bad a s it sounds, that is how to get a wfo reading of the plug.
Vacuum leak - check with spraying wd 40 around the intake manifolds. BTW how old are those ... if they are bad might as well get them swapped.
Cool.
